thats always a good sign

Still difficult to bend it fully but it's getting there.

That explains why I didn't see the answer to it and thought it was just a question. My answer to "What is the smallest bone in a goat?" was gonna be "Yours." :p

It was late and I'm bad at phone posting.

You would be correct but I'm not into goats anymore.

@Rocket Man Your Bromigo Mr. Vinci responded with his recommendation and it makes me feel good about using my 224/228 .600/.600 113lsa.

Thanks Dan,

So with this and the other information in mind along with your goals, my recommendation is: 578/587/222/228/114+4A built on our “rapid ramp” lobe profile. Preferred range: 2700 to 6700. This combination will provide about 85 plus HP and like torque. It will have a pretty aggressive idle which can be adjusted to be rougher or smoother via HP tuners. Street manners should be very good because of our exclusive ramp profiles. While I could easily push the lift up over the .600” mark, tests have proven the factory heads just won’t flow much more when the lift is higher than .585” so why forfeit valvetrain longevity? Also, while extending duration is easily accomplished, it is a daily driver, not a weekend drag truck. Some common sense must be used when specing out cams for this purpose. Since all of our US 5150 steel billet cams are built on CNC’s, our cam specs are pretty easily adjusted. If there is a reason you feel you needed more lift, a duration change or LSA modification, it’s is easily accomplished.

Let me know what you think. I’ll be honest with you with my answers.

Regards,

Although my cam is not exactly what he speced it is very close in many ways. The lift is marginally different and if I do eventually end up with better heads the cam won't be lacking in lift. The exhaust duration is the same and the intake is only off by 2 which would warrant a slightly more aggressive idle in the Vinci cam but would be tamed out a tad by the wider 114lsa. So I think my choice is good and I will certainly consult him in the future.

Also I should add I'm not a cam guru at all, the above guesstimation is just my thoughts after reading a book and many internet posts about it. Please don't take any of my babble as fact.
See what I mean about Roger? The dude is full of knowledge on LS valvetrains and he loves to help. He sometimes would email me back on weekends within a half hour, even gave me his personal contact info so my calls and emails would go straight to him. You should let him know you’re going to use the cam you have now, and order one from him for your pickup in the future. Good to know that 224/228 looks like a good fit.

I am very impressed, the best technical customer service I have ever experienced. That is pretty much exactly what I told him and now I'm very intrigued to know what he would suggest for my Silverado.

Heads will be done today!

I guess I thought the heads that were on this were a little better than they were. I thought they had been lightly ported but the machine shop doesn't seem to think so. Simply Stock 862s with a factory 2" valve cut in nothing very fancy at all. Oh well still ups the compression a bit and should flow plenty for a 6,000 rpm motor.

That’s awesome news. Do you have everything else you need to put it back together?

My order from TSP with trunion upgrade, gaskets, and head bolts will be here Sunday sometime. I ordered yesterday and paid for 2-day shipping so I ama disappointed it won't be here tomorrow.

Edit: Looks like I am an idiot I only paid for regular home delivery. Not sure how that happened but oh well, End of next week was my goal to have the truck running and driving.

I ended up paying a little expedite fee. They still haven't finished the motor for my silverado and it's been since you started your project lol.

Got the heads back! The machine shop talked me into replacing the LS6 2 piece sodium filled valves with stainless valves along with replacing the valve seals so they are basically brand new heads.

All I can do untill parts arrive is done.
-The 224/228 cam is in
-The head bolt holes have been cleaned with an arp thread chaser.
-The block deck has been cleaned but I will do a final clean before the gaskets go on.
-I fixed up the grounds on the back of the block they were pretty narly looking.
-Lifter and trays are back in

I think that's about it. I need to get a cam retaining plate tomorrow along with oil and coolant so that's ready Sunday.

Anyone looking for a 212/218 high lift cam?

That looks so nice. Nothing like new clean parts, assembling an engine. I’m so jealous. One day I’m gonna build one badass LS engine.
