Yea, when the tech looks that service writer right in the face and says, "Yea it does it." then the service writer has no choice but to look at it and ask them to check for any TSB's first. That part should be free.

I've been doing reading online and I found several posts by folks having the exact problem saying it was the encoder motor that may set the truck in 2wd but can't hold it in gear and allows it to slip out. It might get to the point eventually that it won't even be able to set it in 2wd at all. So it looks like probably an encoder motor is in store. I looked and there are several encoder motors listed on ebay and am I safe in finding one that matches my truck "2004 z71 Tahoe" and assuming that it will fit?
