Here’s a few pics of what the Crown Vic looked like when it was in service you can still see the number on the roof

Did not realize it was K-9 vehicle. They generally have a lot of idle hours as you already know. Unless I missed it somewhere how many miles and idle hours on your Vic? When the city of Miami had Crown Vic's for their entire fleet the average idle hours were around 7500.

You do amazing awesome work Brett! Wish I had you for a neighbor when I had mine.

It wasn’t a K9 car those were the only pics I could really find of Crown Vics in service with that town, and mine doesn’t have the idle hours they unfortunately started that on 06 with the new style cluster I’d be curious to know what it was tho and I’ve got 136k on it, I wouldn’t mind throwing a K9 cage in tho for my dog if I ever came across a complete one, and thanks

I've been thinking (and my head hurts too!) my P71 was a 1998, not a '99. '98 was the only year with the 140 speed limiter on Federal cars. I had a state Trooper mention once I could out run him as it was cut to 130 in '99 as police departments were buying cheaper tires and the officers were literally driving the tires off them. Somewhere I've got some photos of mine after I got it painted. However, when I bought it, it looked almost like it was ready for duty, just minus the decals.

The hole in the rear door is normally covered by trim or a decal. It's there to put the door parts together. I enlarged one antenna hole for a CB antenna and left the little white sender antenna on the trunk as it was too large for normal body plugs. Since the bumper covers were black, I just painted the whole car black to stay within Indiana's law about unique police paint schemes.

Not too long ago, I bought a Grand Marquis from the family of the original, 98 year old owner who drove until 2 weeks before he passed away. I had a perfect indentation of a class III hitch in the front bumper cover and a busted grill insert. I got one for a Mercury Marauder and moved my grill emblem to it. I'd come up behind the little darlings at a local college on the way home from work and if they were texting, they would see that Panther platform coming up behind them and they would move over to the right lane.

By the way, I've bought several retired police units over the years. I always try to have a drug dog check it over just in case. Drugs when I first get it, I can get passed over. A year later, not so much.

I added the missing shield that goes over the radiator, along with a shorter antenna I got from American Muscle for a 94-04 Mustang, then a few days after these pics I blew the trans and had it rebuilt it lost 3rd and 4th, was out getting some food pulled out onto the road and I’m under WOT a car cut me off and went to floor it and pass them as they turned off and wouldn’t go over 50 mph and from reading about these transmissions I knew it was toast, it would just got up to 2nd then rev like it’s in neutral but with the OD turned off it would get into 3rd so I could atleast drive it to the shop instead of getting it towed, got it back a week latter, when they rebuilt it they discovered a snap ring broke and that’s what did the trans in

Never knew that about the speed limiter on the early ones so yours was an Indiana Sheriff car? It looks pretty close minus the black on the bumpers there’s a video on YouTube you might have see about a guy buying an Indiana Sheriff car off EBay it was still lettered, had the lights etc. he drive it for a bit and ran into some trouble and sold it to some movie production company and it was actually blown up in a Quentin Tarantino movie, what are the plans for the Mercury? It sounds like you still have it?

It got rear ended by a woman texting. I had a dash cam and it showed me sitting at a red light when she plowed into me. Two Tennessee State police were leaving a restaurant and watched her hit me. My rear bumper cover was up against the wheels after her Expedition hit me. I didn't have collision and she didn't have insurance and was driving on a suspended license. Somebody got a good 4.6 with 90K on it. The rest of the car was toast.

I would've kept it as a donor.
