2005 GMC Yukon 5.3L V8 Canister Purge Valve

Went to the auto parts store and they hooked up the code reader to my truck and came back with canister purge valve code and I changed it out but the check engine light is still on. I'm curious if I just take the ground cable off the battery to reset it like the guy at the auto parts store told me to do or do I have to hook it back up to the code reader to clear the code since I changed it out. TIA.

I`m not sure disconnecting the battery will do it, I had to shut the light off with a scanner when i did mine.
