The 80 swap seems to be too much of a pain in the ass to find the parts I'll need(especially a 2wd yukon xl driveshaft! !!!) and will be pretty expensive and time consuming when all is said and done. I think I'm going to go with the 4l65e race tranny that a shop by me builds $1595 with a 24 month/24 mile warranty. This is what it consists of :

3200 STALL CONVERTOR
ALTO HI PERFORMANCE FRICTIONS
Z-PACK 3-4 FRICTION AND STEEL UPGRADE
HARDENED SUN SHELL
RAYBESTOS PRO SERIES BAND
TRANS GO REPROGRAM VALVEBODY KIT
SONNAX 4TH SERVO ASSEMBLY
SUPERIOR 1-2 BILLET SERVO
UPDATED INPUT SPRAG ASSEMBLY

just going to say GL with that 4L60.
Remember it was designed as a light vehicle trans, aka, camero and S10's.
Gm is just to damn cheap to toss the 80 in all of its big vehicles.

As far as the 80 swap, I believe your over thinking it. as its a very easy swap.
The only custom part of the swap is the harness and the crossmember and even that is plug and play with the right adapter and crossmember from PT.net.
Everything else is pull from one vehicle and install in the other..

O. on side note.
There is some 823 aka 6.2 heads and complete intake on PT.net forsale right now and jenna is selling a square port blower!
makes biiig power on that 6.0 bottom end you have.

I can NOT find a rear driveshaft for a yukon xl 1500 2wd ANY WHERE. Does anyone know if the xl 1500's even came in 2wd?? Why can't I use my current driveshaft and swap out the slip.yokes that go into the tranny? This is driving me NUTZ!!!!!

I have a 2wd driveline for a Yukon XL with a 4L60e sitting in my garage. it was fairly easy to find. you just need to shop in a climate where there are more 2wd's...TX. SoCal etc...I found mine up in vancouver wa. and paid $80 for it.

I have searched all over the Internet for a 2wd driveshaft for an xl and have came up short. I'm 99% sure I'm going to go with the 4l65e tranny I listed above simple because it will bolt right up. Maybe I am overthinking it, but ive read a few horror stories, and I dont like horror stories. Not sure its simply a wiring harness, crossmember fab and a driveshaft, i think tbere is rear diff changes involved too. Even if i did tbe 80 swap with a 4wd i would have so much more to find.

Aside from that mess....I'm going to stick with my 317 heads instead of 243/799's because I'm hearing they will be better for when I put a turbo on in the future. When I'm ready to have my 317's pulled off I'm sending them up the road to the machine shop for disassembly, cleaning, port/polish, valve job and milled if needed, then assembly. In the meantime I'm looking for a new dd because this one will soon be out of commission for a while.

I wouldn't mill them much if any if you plan on running forced induction later. But if you are staying NA I'd definitely have it done now.

A U-joint upgrade with the proper slip yolk to fit the 80? I can use my current driveshaft? Any link for that would be appreciated.
