I own a 2006 Tahoe Z71 5.3 flex fuel and I am getting about 11.5 miles per gallon in town. I changed the plugs and I really don't know what else to do to make it any better. Is this normal?
Thanks.. Gary

Looks like you are slightly below the average when tested new. Other than proper tire inflation and alignment, maybe having it put on a diagnostic computer to see how the engine is performing and some possible tweaks there.

My 2005 Z71 gas gets close to 13 in town but have done so much work on it and can see that in my build thread. I feel lucky to get that mileage.

How many miles on your motor? Does it burn any oil?

I know when I went from my old worn out 275k-mile 5.3 to my newly-rebuilt 6.0 I went from 13MPG to about 18 on the highway. My assumption is the slight increase in power, but also the fact the new motor is 'tight' and not all wallered out like a $2 streetwalker.

contact a good tuner, check the search option here, BB still around?
you should be able to pull up your mileage with a proper tune or check out hptuners or efilive and get input on their forums.
learn to tune your own and you get to eat the fish you catch if you know what I mean.
yup you will pay a price but at current gas prices you should recoup it in 6 months to a year depending on your driving.

I get better than 19 on the highway with my 04 Z71 5.3L. I think it is about 13 or so around town. I do about 2/3 local driving and 1/3 highway miles, so that skews my mileage closer to the 13 MPG mark.

Combined MPG was showing 13.5 last time I looked.

I have an 06 Z71 with 4:10 gears and get 18mpg at 60-65 mph on long trips. I have had a tune installed since new and power to spare. Around town it will get 15mpg with my wife driving. Great ride.
