So yesterday my wife took our 2007 Yukon Denali XL to Walmart to get tires balanced. They told her they wouldn't do it because there is a fuel leak at the tank. When I got home, sure enough, the tank is wet and reeks of gasoline. So today I decided to drop the tank, verify it's is in fact the fuel pump that is leaking (it is) and then I was going to order one to install. I ran into two problems:
1: the bolt for the front hanger came out about 3/4 of the way, but now just spins in the frame. I can see a flat piece of metal which I assume is part of the nut, but I can't get in there to hold it. No biggie; I just bent the hanger at the end and slipped it out.
Is it a nutsert in there? Thought about just using regular nut, but not sure if I'll be able to hold it.
2: after lowering rear of tank, I saw that I missed a hose connection at front top of tank. While attempting to carefully disconnect hose, I must have moved it around too much because the rusty metal line (that I assume goes to the engine) started leaking as well.
So, now I need the fuel pump, the hoses that are on the tank, a hanger, and the metal line. Problem is I can't find the part number for the metal line. Even the Fuel System Component Diagram from GM doesn't show that line, just the hoses on the tank and the pump.
Has anyone had to replace this metal line? Do you have a part number for it? How hard was it to do?
At this point I would normally call a garage and have them pick it up and do the repairs, but money's really tight, and we're down to one vehicle and I can't leave my wife home with the kids without a car.
