The plastic latch on my center console broke. l I removed the broken part and set out to buy a replacement. I expected it to be just a few dollars because it is a simple plastic part. I was informed by two different Chevy dealers that the part was not available and that I had to replace the entire lid at a cost of approximately $400. I found one on EBAY for about half that.

This is my fifth Tahoe and I may not be back. GM seems to be trying to make money by screwing their customers. I know the others are probably just as bad, but I've been a Chevy guy from my 1956 BelAire til now.

Has anyone else experienced this? Up till now, the Tahoe has been the best vehicle I've ever owned. I hate to see this kind of gouging,

Sorry to hear it, but they are correct. It's one piece. You're the first person I remember reading about breaking theirs in the 8 years the NNBS has been out.

Might want to try junk yards because you don't care what the lid looks like, just that the latch is in tack.

Yep

I tried the local wrecking yards. They are aware that the latches can't be replaced and want a fortune for anything they might have. BTW, nobody had one anyway. I thought about getting one made on a 3-D printer but never looked into it. Might have been cheaper.

I have had the same thing happen to me. Bought my Tahoe new and the latch broke a few years later. The engineer that designed this should be fired!
