I think you have hit the nail on the head.

This is why the trucks don't feel smooth anymore.

I think with all those coils compressed, it is the same as cutting coils.

Real 2 Inch springs. If I put in a spacer I am only at 1 inch drop.

I have not really counted them, but the top 20% seems like dead coils to me.

Reason I say this is because they all touch at the top.

Yeah the bottom 5 coils on mine are sitting flat and 2.5 are free and they are brand new.

Naw, short stiffer springs are worst.
My DJM spings were non progressive and did not sit on each other when loaded. That made for a spring that was the equivalent of riding around on blocks instead of coils. It did ride a good amount better when the rear was weighed down (car packed) and fuel take full though.
The only way to drop these trucks and have a good ride is the use of a progressive coil that has closer wounds. Also, to actually achieve a drop, that coil has to be shorter than the stock. That is the reason why the coils settle down to the point that they are resting on each other.
Causes some noise sometimes but apart from that, it's fine.

andrew you need to cut the bracket off the frame as low as you are. The 5305 coils ride great the killer is if you use them without the spacer and even with the belltech shorter stops still not a lot of space


That being said on my truck towing my ctsv (autoride truck) along with 5 people in rear ride is nice but if i kept the bumpstop bracket in would bounce like crazy no travel when loaded

the 5305 have been the same since 1999 when it was released. I hooked up with roel at belltech and we have a new spring avil sits one inch higher than the 5305. this pretty much lets the autoride shocks not pump up like it does with the 5305s.

I should look into making a 4 inch spring with the spring rate I set up for my 6 inch spring. Not progressive but it rides great like the people that tested it out on their trucks stated hum now got me thinking.
