Somtimes I fell my ole 2000 5.3L was quicker. The delay in the throttle is terrible. Drive by wire or somting. Just not snappy at all. My bro in law has the same truck. He had a 2000 5.3l and now matches my 2009 6.2l and complains the same.
I still love the truck just a few wish list items.

No drive difference between Escalade and Denali (that I can tell). But when compared to a Tahoe with the 5.3, the engine sounds a lott meaner.

When comparing the driving between that of a 6.2L and 5.3L, I personally think the gas pedal feels firmer and takes more weight from your foot to accelerate.
