Hey everyone! Just bought a 2010 Yukon Denali AWD a couple weeks back, and after poking around I found this awesome forum. After doing a bit of searching, I can't really find what I'm looking for. Can someone explain what torque management is? I'm curious because when I get on the throttle hard(not wide open, just aggressive) it seems to slip between either 1-2 or 2-3. I've only done it twice and wasn't expecting it so I'm unsure between which gears exactly. I'm apprehensive about trying to duplicate it on purpose in fear of causing more damage. Is this part of torque management?

I took it to the dealer and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. It has 98k, so I had them drop the pan and change the trans fluid and filter, and other 100k maintenance. I'm really worried about it because the 100k warranty will be up sooner rather than later. I'm not against paying to have it fixed, but I would rather have GM cover as much as possible and I can chip in for anything not covered. Thanks in advance for your help!

My experience with that trans slip is almost like yours. It happens to me when I get in the throttle and back out just before it downshifts which then causes that "slip" like it cant decide what gear to be in. Pretty sure its do to the stock tuning.

Torque management allows the transmission to shift without all the pressure. So think of it as allowing you not to bang into gear. It removes torque as you shift. I have had several instances where my transmission is looking for a gear I never really thought it was a real slip but I may be wrong. Back in the day a tranny slip to me would be the tranny letting go of the gear and allowing a high rev drop back into previous gear. That's not what happened to me. Sometimes the truck will get this real weak gear shift and be low on rPM s. Is that what your experiencing? You can always drop your shifter into manual and it will show you what gear your currently in.

Thanks guys. To clarify, this is from a dead stop with somewhat aggressive acceleration(not wide open). It will pull good, but when it goes to upshift, it's like the next gear doesn't grab or something. It will rev but won't pull. Once I let off and the rpms fall, it will fall into gear and then when I get back on the throttle it pulls fine in that gear. The dealer said they couldn't find any transmission slip codes, and couldn't get it to do it while driving. I'm just curious with all the new age electronics if it's not some feature to help protect the drivetrain. It's only between those 2 gears though, 1-2 or 2-3(I'll try it again today and find out which ones for sure). Thanks again for the help!

Just an update, it's definitely slipping. My wife called and said it did it going up a hill on the way to work. Hopefully this is covered under the warranty since I mentioned it at 98K when I had the 100k service done. We are just a little over 100K right now, not even 101K yet. It's between 2nd-3rd gears and seems to slowly be getting worse. Anyone have experience getting warranty work done after the warranty has expired, even though it was brought up BEFORE the warranty expired? This really is a bum deal, we just got the Yukon a little over a month ago.

This is why I do my transmission services every 30K.

My question would be do you or did a previous owner tow with it? GM transmissions are normally reliable as all hell. The 2 things that kill them are heat and lack of service.

On my Chevy Colorado which see some street abuse I installed another transcooler in series with the OEM cooler and a trans temp sensor. My trans temps never go above 165* With now 11 years of track time and John Force burn outs I have never had any issues. I do the trans service on that truck on average of every 25k to be safe.
