It will be a salvage title since it was totalled in the accident.Does it have a clean title? You definitely don't want a salvage or rebuilt title.

$5300 seems like a lot of money for a truck out of a junk yard. Hell I just bought my 2011 Tahoe with 147k for $5800 and it wasn’t crashed... don’t get me wrong U can make it a nice truck but $5300 seems crazy to me. Should be like $1000-2000, basically a parts truck price.
The salvage title doesn't mean much if you plan on keeping it for a long time. Besides, you have pics of it before and receipts of the parts as you restored it if a prospective buyer wants to see them. Yes, the value is hurt, but it's not worthless. Someone may have had the adjuster over-estimate on the damage to total it out so they could get a chunk of cash to put down on a new ride. It happens all the time. Doesn't mean the vehicle is trash.
A salvage title does not scare me away since I have personally seen the truck and looked through everything. The only reason I can think that this was totalled was if the person had an expensive body shop quote all brand new, GM parts. Nothing aftermarket. It gets very expensive very quickly if you price those things out.
Your deal is by no means a standard to compare to. Either you got yours at essentially half it's value or there's some extenuating circumstances. His "junk yard" is probably more of an insurance wrecking yard and not something like a U-pull-it type place that parts out the dusty, mossy heaps people finally had drug out from under the tree in their back yards.
$5800 is dirt cheap assuming there are no issues or anything else to account for for that Tahoe. Seems like there would almost need to be some other circumstances with that purchase. Being that cheap would almost worry me. That is just me though.
So I found a truck today on my lunch break that had good seat belts. I pulled them and installed them in the Avalanche. Perfect fit. No issues. Now that I have them out of the way, I will be going after work today to install the driver side air bag, new left fender, bumper cover and all front lights. Should be about 90-95% done this evening. I will just be missing a few small trim pieces like the lower valance and stuff like that. I will try and take some pictures as I go!
Yes. Once I have all the new SRS components installed (seatbelts are already in, just have to install new drivers air bag), I have an OBD scanner that has the capability to read/erase SRS module codes. I SHOULD be able to wipe the SRS module clean with that. If not, I already have another SRS module that came out of a truck that the bags did not deploy in. Worse case scenario, I install the other module, but I have faith in the scanner. Is there any programming that has to be done in the PCM or BCM to "reset" the air bag system after a deployment?

If I had a salvage yard near me, I'd be broke! So I found a truck today on my lunch break that had good seat belts. I pulled them and installed them in the Avalanche. Perfect fit. No issues. Some states are really hard ass and have a set of prechecks that the vechile needs to pass before you can register it.
