I'm curious what everyone else is getting for their oil pressure.

Vehicle is a 2011 Z71 5.3 LT1 3900 miles. Mobil 1 5w30 Dexos

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

It's always between 17-20 at an idle and only at 40 on a cold engine.

The last two tahoes and 2500hd's (6.0l) were always 40psi and above.........

Not sure if that is normal or not for the 5.3 of that year. My 2001 5.3 tahoe never got that low. My current denali with the 6.2 will dip to around 20 if its warm and at idle though. The minute you hit the gas it spikes back up though.

Yeah I'd get that checked out, mine never gets that low, even when its actually low on oil (I have an '07 that drinks oil).

I resently sold a 2002 and a 2003 for a 2011. My '02 and '03 never got that low but my '11 does all the time. I use the same oil as you too. I probably have about 4,000 miles on mine too.

I cant recall what or where I read it but I believe it is normal for the '11. But please dont take my word for it. Please get it checked out and let us know what you find.

I recall the volts coming from the alternator were fluctuating on the gauge more than my old tahoes did too. Apparently there is some on demand charging where it only charges when needed.

btw. mine is also a Z71 with your engine.

My07 is the same way.20psi @ idle, and 40psi when I hit the gas. From what I was told the DOD engine has lower oil pressure for propper operation of the DOD system.

My 08' Denali has 40,000 mile and the same oil pressure when fully warmed up. Jumps up no problem with RPM's

In the winter, a colder engine will have lower pressure due to the "W" in your 5W30. Around freezing temps, your oil with be very thin and runny, to help get to all the engine parts faster. 40psi at idle is normal operating pressure when warm.
