2011 Tahoe/Real axle bearings Timken versus stock

..... But something does have me thinking. The Escalade was built in November 2014. I've noticed on some drivetrain parts, like the timken bearings, they show the applications through the 2013 model for some reason. I have not measured my ring gear.... I know I'm 2015 they had a larger ring gear.... But I still have the 14 bolt cover.

You didn't look at any of the links or part numbers did you?

You didn't specify which picture of mine you wanted me to look up the RPO codes for either.

It's not uncommon for the aftermarket to omit a year. In our case they are following the chassis based on the 1500 pickups.

Didn't have time to fully look through the whole page this morning. I was curious about the RPO code on that axle where the flange is real close to the axle tube. I see that on the 8.5 axles but not the 9.5. The 9.5 seems to have more spacing away from the axle tube.

I'll look at that page this afternoon, it had a lot of data on it.

ALL of the GMT900 1500s are like that. You know how I know, besides the pictures and seeing them side by side? There's only one part number for the parking brake anchor block. That and the dust shield is what bolts up to that. The one for the '09 Hummer is way different.

I kinda think I know why you discount the photo with the tape measure on both axles. I was in the heavy equipment parts business and like you, saw tons of parts that were only minutely different from one another. Our air spring catalogs seemed like they were a foot thick back then!

I would normally find it odd that GM put the AXN on an AWD truck when they hadn't done so for many years but since it was the end of the model run and the new generation was using a different axle, it makes sense that they would use up all their extra parts. Saw this with the GM G-Bodies in the 1980s.

Below is my list of RPO codes. The date of manufacture is November 2014. It was sold and titled as a 2014 model.... But I think it's prudent to assume many of the 2015s were being manufactured prior to that date? I may in fact have an oddball in between model years. Last year I was at my local dealer parts counter with my rear u joints in hand. They told me those aren't the correct ones for a 2014.... That I must have a 2015. Showed him my VIN number off my insurance card, he looks it up and it says 2014. WTH?

Are you saying that you used 3" diameter wheel bearings in your Cadillac's axle?

Your u-joints are 1355s right? The K2s are 1415s.

Production of the 2015s began in January 2014 and sales began in April 2014.

Houston, we have a problem. I did some more digging. While Wikipedia can be questionable, they stayed the 2015 model started production in January 2014, and went on sale in April 2014. ...

I shared this info with my contact at my local dealership. They're familiar with the issues of locating correct part numbers with my VIN. Said they'll get back with me probably Monday or Tuesday after some research.... But yeah, they agree there is an obvious problem here. Mine was built in Arlington Texas 11 months after production of the 2015 started at the same factory.

Even the platform is different from the 2010 to 2014 models.

That was quick. Since I'm at work the wife is taking the Escalade down to the dealer. They want to take some specific wheelbase measurements and such, and get some numbers off it. They suspect it is the platform GMT K2 XL, and will be able to confirm with some measurements in whatever else they're looking for. This is going to be a huge headache at the department of motor vehicles I'm afraid. They were able to pull up an image of the certificate of origin from Arlington. Something tells me the error is on that certificate. They didn't want to commit to anything yet.

Can you post a photo of your truck again? How about those ones of the brakes and any undercarriage photos?

Just because a new model has begun production, doesn't mean the old one cannot continue for a time on another line to use up their parts.
