20113 SSV 4wd, 4LO, stuck/frozen?

Hello all,

So I drove home from TX, yesterday, and had to use 4wd at times (weather was great for that on I40), and it seemed to work just fine switching back and forth between 4wd and 2wd.

When I arrived at home I had about 1-2 feet of snow in my driveways (they are fairly long), but in 4LO the Tahoe seemed to push through it fine. I left the switch in 4LO overnight (9 degrees, 2 feet of snow, at 6,500ft) and this aternoon, it didn't seem to want to switch to 2wd.

Any ideas? (snow, ice, literally frozen?)

Yes.
Truck rolling under 5 mph and trans in neutral should swap it after its all warmed up.

Ok... so I am one of these people youtube videos are made for... It's even easier, put transmission in neutral, and move the 2WD/Auto/HI/LO switch (you can actually hear it switch/shift)

It helps gears mesh if truck is rolling in neutral, but under 5mph... I believe the manual calls for 2-4mph...glad you got it out.

Hi James,

It worked when I put the car in Neutral (transmission in neutral). Which makes sense. (because of "Jeep knowledge", limited though. The transfer case and transmission, in my 79 CJ (dana300 + T18 combo) 'bind' when engaged in 4LO, and it is almost impossible to shift the transfer case with the transmission in gear.

So I could have guessed that.. I just wasn't thinking *lol*.. I thought, Tahoe, electronics.. but of course the mechanical stuff is still the same/similar

That works on my CJ, but in that one first gear is not synchronized and the dana300 is all gears. I assume that when, on the Tahoe, you put the transmission in neutral, the transfer case can shift, without the 'bind' of the tranny.

btw: I have packed snow/ice around the house, when you start it in 4LO, and shift into drive, the car moves/slides just a hair because of the axles engaging it seems (brakes fully engaged)?
