Trying to decide which way to go on this. Mine is a 2007.

First, does the 2012 factory Nav unit use a disk? Or is it all in the harddrive? Does it allow an IPOD to be connected and view the contents of the ipod?

Next, anyone with the advent? I had one earlier this year and honesty got frustrated due to the XM application. I kept losing signal and had to turn off the key, open the door, or something like that. Honestly I should have been more persistent but I wussed out and returned it instead of trying harder to make it all work. Has anyone else here got that unit, had that problem and resolved it? Also, it seemed the screen graphics (icons for functions) weren't quite as sharp as the factory unit control screen icons.

I'm up for getting either of these another shot now. I like the idea of a factory unit, but I do want it to have a good nav, play my ipod, and beable to watch dvd while in motion (for the passengers).

I personally would go with the stock OE unit. The Advent unit has pretty decent reviews on here, but I bet the performance of the stock one is better.
I can't answer the question about whether or not the newer units with hard drives have the ability to store the maps internally because I do not have one.
I have a bud who has a 2010 or 2011 fully loaded LTZ and his unit plays Ipods just fine, and you control the Ipad from the nav screen. The navigation is average (not as good as a Garmin powered system) but is at least good enough for most commutes.
His, being an OE unit, does not play DVD while in motions unless you buy a lockpick module with it. I installed one for him and to play in motion DVD all you have to do is select it in the DIC (which you have to do every time you want to play a DVD in motion) and play away.

Yes the 2012 Gm Navigation stores the map data on the hard drive, no dvd.

Does anyone have the part number for the 2012 unit?

Also, doesn't it take an extra adapter harness to work in a 2007 model?

Would it interface with the onstar, xm, etc....?

Where would I find the harness if one is made?

Thanks,

Gregg at cps audio video has the harnesses and the units themselves, he even programs them so you don't have to head to the dealer to get it unlocked. His number is 707-588-9300. I bought mine from him for 1550.00 which also included the video harness so I can watch DVDs from the nav unit on the headrest monitors.

Is the advent in stock...I was ready to pull trigger on the ANDROID OS operating head unit I have been asking ? [doesn't seem like too much info on them here] but out of stock...

might look into just grabbing the advent but its almost price difference of $200+...

The advent unit is pretty nice, I'm torn between it and all it's functions and the OEM unit that has a usb plug for easy ipod play.
