Since a child, my family has always been a GM/Chevrolet loyalist. My first car was a Camaro led then by an Oldsmobile Alero, Cadillac CTS, Equinox, Impala, and now on my 2nd Chevrolet Tahoe. My parents, have had countless Silverado’s, and to this day own one, in addition to their Avalanche and Impala. There has never been any vehicle registered to us outside the GM family…

Here is my story of GM failing me.

January 2016, I purchased a 2015 Tahoe. Within the first year, this truck was inoperable, Cam/Lifter went out. December 2006 I had this all replaced (6 weeks in a truck borrowed from a friend). Ungodly amount of repairs, but luckily, I was still under warranty. Since then,

2017-2018 Repairs (all out of pocket)

ü All Outside Trim Panels All replaced $300.00

ü A/C went out. $350.00

ü A/C went out again, 3 weeks later, this time condenser ($500.00)

ü 2018, conveniently after 100K mark, lifters, cam etc goes out again. The exact same faults that happened previously. Estimate 5K-15K depending on if new motor needs put in.

ü Loaner again for 3 weeks to figure out what to do.

ü Chevy Dealer says “ we have never seen anything like this”

ü They called GM also, again sorry for your luck.

ü Tires, breaks, etc etc.

I contact GM/Chevy, multiple times, and all I got, “Sorry for your luck” with NO ASSITANCE. Your out of warranty, doesn’t matter you have a Lemon, but sorry.

July 2018, I have a truck that I can’t afford to fix, without risk of knowing would reoccur, I have no choice but to contact a friend that is a Dealership Manager for Toyota. He offers to help me, even though his location isn’t Chevy, still goes out of his way to take the “Lemon” from me and put me into, (against his wishes) but another Tahoe. This time, 2016, 60K miles, LTZ. Less than 3 days of owning the truck,

ü A/C Goes out

ü Side Trim Pieces fall off

ü DVD Player stops working

Of course the Toyota Dealership took care of all the repairs for me at no charge because that is what a good company would do.

ü Fixed A/C at no charge

ü Couldn’t repair DVD Player

ü Set me up in a Toyota Loaner at NO CHARGE

Now, 3 weeks later…. (30 days since purchase)

ü A/C Out again, compressor,

ü Dealership has me in yet another Toyota Loaner

ü Now having to utilize extended warranty that I bought 30 days ago because Chevy won’t cover A/C after 60K miles (which shall I note, both Tahoe’s stopped working after 60K)

Why is it that a Toyota dealership is the only ones willing to help me? Why is it that Chevy, refuses to help or even make a statement, other than, “Sorry it’s out of warranty?” This is the 4th time in 1 year I have had a CHEVY truck in for A/C repair, and coincidentally it’s the same issue?? And what do they say about it? “Out of warranty” and “It’s now not at a certified GM dealer)

ü Your GM Certified dealership didn’t fix the 2015 correctly the first time.

ü You assured me you would assist them in making the correct repairs

ü They didn’t

ü GM offered me ZERO assistance other than an apology, Toyota stepped up and STILL put me in a GM truck.

I messaged the CEO, I was routed to a “special care specialist” “Emily” as she would be in the best position to assist. Emily called me, her exact words “you traded in your 2015, what exactly you would like for me to do?” I said, ok, how about the 16? Emily says “it’s not at a certified GM dealership what do you expect me to do?”

ME: So far upside down in debt because of GM and their faulty trucks…Speechless….

Sincerely,

Jessica

None of this adds up to show you did anything except have the vehicles serviced in an ordinary manner at the selling dealership and then the mechanicals broke (and broke, and broke again).

Time for GM to come out from behind the comfortable office and salary you paid for with your brand loyalty. They’re using your family’s hard earned money against you as a form of attrition. I would Google your favorite news station, locate who their investigative news reporter is and copy/paste what you wrote here to the TV station.

If no luck in a week or two, move onto the next TV station. Things have changed since GM got back on their feet because the USA bailed them out.

If that doesn’t work out I would Start a Kickstarter or Crowdfunder page with that same info. Make GM aware of it and let your actions tell the story. The irony is that the majority of your supporters will be GM’s loyalists. Post your goal and intentions so that the leftovers will go to a specific charity.

If this means the $3k needed turns into $30k, purchase a new or preloved CPO GM vehicle with a huge warranty and email the TV station with your story of GM slamming the door on you after you bailed them out and you did what American’s do, never, ever give up. When you finished the fight, you paid it forward to someone else (donations with the leftovers).

Here is GM responses...

We appreciate you providing these details on your situation, Jessica. This is truly not the ownership experience we would want you to have with your Tahoe, as we realize how frustrating these reoccurring costly repairs must be. Please know, we have requested your case be escalated to an internal specialty team for additional assistance. This team will now be in the best position to help, and should be reaching out to you within the coming days. Please let us know if you do not hear from them soon. ^CR

Hi, Jessica. After review, we do see you were contacted by one of our specialty advisors in regards to your case. Unfortunately, we are unable to explore options of assistance for this repair until a diagnosis is completed at a GM dealership. Additionally, we are unable to guarantee the cost of this repair will be fully covered. If you have any additional questions or concerns regarding this resolution, we encourage you to reach back out to Emily, as she would be in the best position to assist. ^CR

So I bought a 2016 Chevy, 4 weeks ago, traded in the piece of junk I had. Guess what, 3rd trip to dealership. A/c out

Companies aren’t loyal. They are profit driven amoral entities. With that said, none are immune to lemons.

Sorry to hear about your experience though. Sucks for sure.

On the upside an entire universe of automotive fun just opened up to you to explore. Enjoy the journey!

I don't purchase the first model year from any manufacturer. And if I were to, be damn sure it has a warranty. Sorry to hear about the lemon hoe, hope you come back to the GM fold in due time

It's tough for GM to do anything with the truck at a Toyota Dealer. Out of warranty is out of warranty. But you are in warranty and have an extended warranty with the 2016, right?

Nice, once you have the name of the individual who received your email at the tv station post their name and your story on GM’s Facebook page.

Be sure to post what you’d like them to do to make you whole from your negative (financial) service experiences after decades of your family paying it forward.

I am taking my story to the media today.
