There is nothing wrong with the video format that Apple uses. The Intellilink systems supports the main ones. Apple devices does not support video over usb. I took all of my son's DVD's and ripped them to my hard drive and copied them to a USB Stick. I also had a few DVD's that I ripped to the DIVX format a few years ago and added them to the USB stick as well. The RSE does support DIVX but you have to register the system by getting the code from the DIVX screen and using the DIVX website to download a file to activate your system. I love the fact that I no longer have to keep a stack of DVD's in the vehicle. You can view the Video menu from the RSE screen and select what you want to watch. From the Drivers Intellilink screen you can cycle through the videos but the menu is limited especially if you are driving. You have more options on the front screen if you are in park. The limits while driving can be changed by contacting Gtprix as steve1081 stated.

can u use a sd card to do this also vs a usb stick? also when i register on the cars end does it have t one on a cd-r or will the car read the sd card or usb stick with the file from the dvix site on it?

thanks,
jim

u pull up the registration code on the rear screen in the truck. write the code down. go to divx website and register as a user. email and password. then enter code. u then download the file after u register on a usb drive (only). then go play it on the rear screen. after that all divx files will work.

what are u using to convert files to dvix?

here is my next question. why can't u put the usb drive in one of the front usb ports. only the rear one seems to work. also how you select movies from the drive through the front unit vs the remote in the rear?

just some new info i figured out tonight.

i threw a small mp4 on the usb drive and that played too. so it just doesn't play dvix format.

i tried a mp4 that was ripped in 1080p. didn't work. tried a way smaller resolution and it worked. now the question is what is the max resolution it can handle.

also tried to put the small mp4 on a sd card. worked.

so my main questions are still:

1. can i use the other usb ports up front fro video?
2. max resolution the system can handle?

Another followup. I just ripped the 1080p version down to the old iPhone resolution so it would be sd. It didn't play in mp4 format. so now i'm confused why the other mp4 played. it was much smaller in resolution, but the mp4 resolution i ripped to was not larger than the largest divx file i have played thus far. so now i'm kinda at a loss.

i might have to start fresh with a rip right to the resolution i want from the dvd vs taking it from a cloud download from the apple store. maybe they are protected but i figured itf they were i wouldn't have been able to rip it down smaller?

After my programming the front will play DIVX as well, just an FYI.

That i knew. I'm still trying to get myself to the point of getting it done but i want to first make sure i can get files up and running properly.

1. do you know if you can load video files through any other usb port besides the rear one?
2. also do you know what the max resolution you can rip dvd's to so they can be played back? i downloaded a few diff divx files last night and the higher resolution ones won't play.
3. what's the deal with mp4's? i got one or 2 two work but both others?

thanks,
jim

PS I'm getting so frustrated. I ripped a dvd straight to divx and it said "not supported" it was a 480 lines of resolution. I registered my divx and played the test video from the site. i even played 2 other sample video's. so why won't this one i ripped work? plays on my computer just fine.

i'm ripped a dvd to mp4 right now at 480 lines to see. . . so direction would be awesome!

thanks,
jim

Depends on what screen you want to play them on, if you want to play them on the front (which is easier to manage) you can load from any of the front. From the rear I believe its that port only but with my programming you can view/change whats playing. I have had perfect results using these steps:

1. Everything needs to be 480, I know it sounds bad but on a small screen it looks fine.
2. The file names need to be short and not have any special characters in them.

I have only tested files up to 2GB but they worked so YMMV.

I'm back to this thread... and sorry to be ignorant.
Believe it or not, I'm not an old dude, can understand technology, and know enough to understand all the terms being thrown around. But I'd have to spend a couple more hours googling to figure out for the wife.

So, can anyone in plain english summarize the "answers" in this thread?

We are happy to burn DVDs. What do I need to do to burn DVDs that will play video and sound in the rear entertainment system?

Thanks... again apologize if i missed it or was being too ignorant to fully comprehend the answers already given.

Here are two guides to backup my Blueray movies. They play on all three screens without any issues. I also use a 128GB SD card formatted in FAT32 but i think you can also use NTFS. exFAT is not supported and it look like a lot of newer card come in this format. Hope this helps

Thank you. We already use handbrake...
We have a ton of movies, some handbrake ripped, probably a bit more just downloaded via itunes. This is on a Mac.

We tried ripping a few to DVDs and couldn't get them to play in the Yukon. So the key to me is how to get them to play in the Yukon.

Is the key the USB card formatted in FAT32 or NTFS... or is there something specific to your handbrake process (one of the steps) that makes it work?

Here's another guide you might want to look over for handbrake.
http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/154240-playing-videos-on-mylink-intellilnk/page-5#entry1431310

My process is simple I backup the DVd with Any DVD then use handbrake to covert it to a mp4. The thing that had me stuck for hours was the format the SD card had to be in. I even use 1080 resolution when I covert to mp4 in hand break which many say doesn't work. Also i'm using the card reader in the rear of the truck. I'm also able to play 2 separate movies on the 2 rear screens oof the same SD card.

Later this evening I'll take a screen shoot of the properties of one of my backups. Then you can use all the same parameter in hand break. But remember I'm only using AnyDVD to backup my Bluerays movies.
