2021's not shipping because of hail damage.

My 2021 has been sitting at the naval air base in Grand Prairie since early Oct. Dealer has said they were expecting it any day. My brother lives in Dallas and met a friend of a friend who works for GM plant. Asked him about my truck still sitting there. He said if it is a 2021 and is at the navy lot then more then likely it has hail damage. Called my dealer and they said they did have a large list of tahoes that have hail damage but didn't see mine on the list but said it makes since. Kinda sounded like she knew the whole time. I Well I cancelled my order and gonna try again with 2022 different dealer.

That would be upsetting to receive a damaged and repaired truck sold as new. Mine went to Midlothian in Augist and just came back to Arlington plant the beginning of November. Dealer said it was MP. (waiting on chips)

JCT status shows "pending" for plant to rail since November 5th. I'm hoping it's moving and they just haven't updated the status. Otherwise, I'm now worried that it's still at the plant for hail repair.

Just incredible that these $60 to 80K machines are being (mis)handled like that these days.

Most states have laws that govern disclosure of damage on a new vehicle. There usually is a kind of deductible where if the damage was under that number, no disclosure is required, above and it is illegal to sell without disclosing.

The minimum number is to cover minor road rash in transport and dealer parking lot mishaps that don't materially affect the value of the vehicle. Above that number it is considered material.

I can see a dealer not disclosing something like major hail damage that was "fixed" as some lie and cheat in the daily course of business of selling cars (some don't lie and cheat as well). On the other hand, when I lived in Texas, I remember the occasional "hail sale" where dealers off'ed damaged inventory at a discount and got makeup compensation from their insurance company.

Finally, I absolutely cannot see GM fixing hail damage as part of getting a truck completed for sale and not disclosing that damage and requiring the dealer to do so as well. That is waaaay too much legal and media liability for Mary Barra to want to risk.

The tracking issue is that the current capability is sooo bad it makes it worse then no tracking ability as people / dealers fill in the blanks with bad intel.

GM definately wasn't trying to pass along damaged vehicles as new, more so they are probably trying to figure out what's what and the intel just hadn't flowed yet.

I completely disagree. Being able to track and have real status updates would completely make the entire situation better. Nothing more frustrating than no information or half truth information.

Why not just be patient and wait until it shows up like our ancestors? I've wasted several days per week tracking down items that were in transit, on time and on schedule. God forbid there was a forest fire, then all the experts started calling telling us how to get around it and wondering why there were still delays.

I think what’s worth noting is how Amazon can keep track of a fast moving supply chain in almost real time. Millions (billions?) of packages moving every day and they know where every piece is, all the time. (Well maybe not what’s shipped by the postal service, but that’s a whole other topic.)

So should you expect a carmaker to know the status accurately of your order in 2021? I would hope so.

And yet clearly the car industry is stuck in the past. We just bought two new vehicles and the whole inventory record keeping system for cars is a joke. Manufacturers websites as well as dealers sites are rife with misinformation and inaccurate records. Trying to locate a vehicle today is just like the times before the internet. You have to call a dealer on the phone, then they have to root around in the office for keys, or walk the lot before they can tell you a vehicle is there or not! It’s incredible.

I called a dealer to inquire about a vehicle on the website, gave them a stock number and a vin. It took them hours and multiple people to determine it had sold TWO WEEKS prior. That’s just BS. I believe it’s partly intentional so customers have to initiate personal contact rather than peruse the website and move on if the cupboard is bare.

I think it’s insane that there aren’t actual at least estimated delivery dates. How do they not have at least weekly routes planned ahead of time. I’ve been tracking vehicles for a month (Bc mine is sitting there) and for instance there is a dealership with 6 Yukon’s at the navy base. 4 sitting there since late October/early Nov and 2 showed up on the 16th and already got delivered to the dealership while the other 4 are still sitting there. I’ve seen this happen multiple times.
