My wife’s 2024 Tahoe has completely shut down while she was traveling down the highway 3 times. It only has 8000 miles on the vehicle. She has taken it back to the dealership and GM has no idea how to fix the problem. The first time it shut down she had 3 friends in the vehicle on a girls trip She was on I-85 headed to Auburn AL. The vehicle looses everything. No steering no brakes. Nothing. The second time she was on an exit ramp. Same shut down. Nothing. Both times they tried things but it happened again.
She is now scared to drive her new Tahoe. It is currently at the GM dealership for the last week. GM has no idea what to do. This is a major safety issue. 75 mph to no power

Being as new as it is , id make them (Gm) replace it under the "lemon law". Just my thoughts tho

Hey- welcome

Car would not lose brakes. ever.
Does entire dash go dark or engine just shuts off ?

Dealer just may need some time to do a proper diagnosis. pain in the rear but any car can have an issue. you just happen have one. not to worry. they’ll sort it out one way or another

Too early for lemon law probably. every state is different but most require multiple repair attempts for one issue before a lemon law to even apply. hence dealer will sit on it until they get it right

Possibly a fuel pump issue

I was going to ask the same question about what engine, if a 6.2l often this is a precursor to to spun bearings, engine locking up. But I would not have expected it to occur more than 2 times before the engine fails and needs to be replaced.

Do yourself a favor and just change the Fuel Pump Control Module (FCPM) while this may or may not solve the problem. KEEP the original module in case the replacement does not resolve the problem. At least you should then have a "working" spare when the FCPM does die.

But I would also question the no steering and no brakes comment. The power steering is electric and I believe the brake assist may also be electric? I am sure someone will correct me but I believe the newer models have an Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) which support brake assist and ABS control. If the vehicle really lost steering and brake assist then this may be more of a overall electrical problem. Did the dash go dark as well?

Did the vehicle restart or did it require a tow for each incident?

Sometimes during "panic" situations people do not recall exactly what was going on and what was or was not working.

You really need to get to the facts about what happened. But I for the cost of the FCPM and the ease of replacement, I would DIY. The FCPM is between $50-$75 if you shop it around. It is 1 connector, 2 bolts on the frame and you can reach it on most models without even lifting the vehicle.

I know the vehicle may be under warranty, but the dealer will only replace parts when they can observe or determine the part has failed. Sometimes you have to take the bull by the horns and do some things yourself even if it is under warranty. If the FPCM fixes the problem you can submit for reimbursement, but I have a threshold sometimes, I just eat it and move on if I can sort the problem for a reasonable cost. Just the down time and screwing around dropping off and losing use of the vehicle is worth the money I pay out of pocket.

Good luck.
