Just curious if anyone is interested in a rebuild thread. Part of these trannies need special tools, so I'm not sure if the DIY'ers can do it at home for that reason, but knowledge never hurts. I work at my family owned Transmission Shop in NC.

I did my first 70E conversion on my tahoe about 2k mikes ago and she's running great she's also ated at 600/650 for 4wd.

If this doesn't gain traction please delete.

Once you see the cost of the tools to rebuild it at home in addition to rebuild kits plus any hard parts that are needed...You wont be interested. It would be alot cheaper just to take to a shop and get a warranty.

Tools needed off the top of my head (not including common sockets, air tools, etc.)
Reverse clutch hold down tool
Slide hammer for front pump removal
seal sizing/install tools
Transmission holding fixture is nice but not absolutely required
Transmission case washer (Thousands of dollars or take your empty case into a shop and pay them to wash it)

Rebuilding a tranny is not rocket science but it is quite tedious and requires absolutely attention to detail. If the tranny failed and need the rebuild then you have to be able to figure out what caused the failure and make sure it is fixed so your rebuilt doesnt fail because of that and thats all experience.

100% correct. All of it. We also update the valve bodies with sonax valves and we machine them in house.

This is what goes into every rebuild we do. No compromise.

If you all want to see a rebuild on a 4l60E just have a look on youtube. There are tons of vids from start to finish. Only difference between a 4L60e in any given model year is if it is a 2wd or a 4wd (the cases are different) but the internals are the same. There are differences from one certain group of years vs older groups because of improvements but other than that once you learn one you can do them all for the most part.
As mentioned before there are updates that come out well after your specific model year tranny was produced and when it fails all updates should be installed and knowing what all updates need to be performed is all experience or alot of google searching.
