I know there are many threads on this topic but I can't find one that answers the specific question I have. So my question, what upgrades can you do to a 4l60e that will allow it to handle more power without completely tearing it down and replacing parts inside. If I had the money I would just buy a rebuilt transmission and get someone to put it on there but I'm 17 and work at a grocery store so I don't have much money and want to keep it below 1000.

You arent going to upgrade much without tearing tranny apart and replacing internals. You should be able to get your tranny rebuilt and updated for a grand if you remove and reinstall it.

What kind of power are you planning on giving the tranny? Why do you think you will have more power to the tranny than you already have? Whats wrong with the tranny right now?

I plan on exhaust, CAI, chip or custom tune in the next 6 months and eventually a bigger cam. Right now my transmission makes horrible clanking noises when I put it in gear and sometimes if I'm rolling down a hill I hear the same noise when it shifts, and when I follow behind someone that's turning and slow down but don't stop and hit the gas again it hesitates.

Sounds like the tranny needs some internal sweet loving ....so why on earth would you do all the upgrades first? Youre gonna fry that tranny and then all those upgrades are going to be in the driveway because the tranny couldnt take it. Check your U-joints too!

I wasn't going to get a bigger cam until I've done something to the transmission. I was only planning on CAI and Exhaust and maybe a custom tune but upgrade my transmission for bigger parts, that's why I asked this question......so I can fix it before big power upgrades.....

There really arent any parts to upgrade to "bigger" except maybe go from a 4 element planetary to 5 and put a beast sunshell in or equivalent. Upgrade the clutch packs. You cant bore a tranny like you can a engine block and stuff bigger parts into it. lol It really sounds like you might want to put your money into the tranny before it leaves you stranded. They dont just fix themselves or "get better".....they get worse, alot worse.

I meant bigger parts as in bigger cam and performance parts, not big parts for the transmission. I'm not trying to make a 10 second Tahoe, I just want a little more power but no more than 80hp over stock. But if I need to tear apart my transmission to rebuild everything inside to add a bigger cam then I'll stick with exhaust, CAI and a BB tune

How much power do you think I could handle with a transgo hd2 shift kit and a corvette servo, maybe even a new torque converter? Should also mention my truck has 233k miles
