Another option would be a 4L80 or maybe a new 4L85 from GMPP and have the pcm reprogrammed for the different transmission.

Given that the OP does not have the vehicle anymore I would say go talk to a transmission builder for the answer the question posed in the OP. I recently had mine rebuilt and this is a quote from his webpage about the 4l60e
"CPT specializes on racing and performance 4L60Es. We currently have our Ultra Pro Race builds eclipsing 1200 horsepower in C5 Corvettes."

I don't build transmissions for a living but he does and I'll take his word over any internet poll.

Just curious...how often and with what type fluid are you guys servicing your transmissions? I stick with OEM filters/fluids and service my 4L60E per GM recommendations.

If I loved the truck so much, and if it had no other big issues, I’d be inclined to rebuild the trans or even install a new one rather than sell it as-is and start all over again with a different truck. I’d see it as a safer bet in the long run.

Call me crazy. :)

Nah, at this point, with all I've done to the thing I agree- like Erickk120 said- it's Russian Roulette -but I'm discovering the WHOLE PRICESS OF owning a 99-06 is. Girlfriend and friend each have had one with over 275k and no problems whatsoever.

ME? My 02 , had an engine warrantied at 90k, PLUS the T-case pump mount shot the case at 140k as my father was delivering it to me.
Then, this preivious Thanksgiving Day, at two weeks past a year into owning it, the Gov-Bomb started to tick. Dry with NEVER a sign of a leak.
-Replaced rear diff before Christmas, -4wd switch stopped lighting up, 5 switch trials yield nothing- apparently "normal"ly fail.
-Replaced the soaking wet but always FULL front diff after Christmas, only to discover the axle seal leak was a carrier bearing failure- thanks to the pinky-fingernail-sized tabs holding the adjusters together-
Again- " NORMAL " ???
-Flex fuel sensor started popping ECMI / ECM1 fuses, which had the vague description of "...function differs from gas or diesel..." Causing me to spend 3days stranded at work and get practice with the inevitable fuel-pump replacement which was not necessary.
-We found a used 2016 Snap-On Solus Pro at a pawn shop and bought it for about 1/16 MSRP, because if we can talk to the 4wd, it paid for itself. And I didn't wanna LOSE money by NOT buying it.

The icing:
I OWE $4,000 ON THE THING.
I told my girlfriend I'm going to the salvage yard, bench testing, and getting Crank and cam sensors, got a spare fuel pump, getting a PCM, trans computer , 4wd unit, fuel sensor, maf- EVERYTHING that will fit in a custom door behind the passenger rear quarter panel. And we're gonna BEAT the hell out of the hateful thing :
"... Here b*#@h!!- want a Crank sensor? EAT THAT!!! Oh, ONE front diff wasn't ENOUGH? HAVE ANOTHER!! How's THAT taste? Huh??!!"

I just miss my '97 Waldoch 1500....
THATS MY NEW TAGLINE!!!!

They’re super strong transmissions, but the next Denali I get I’ll be putting a race/ heavy duty transmission in it.

Thank you for posting this- you've reminded me I need to stop using my kickdown , plug in the SolusPro so I can talk to the 4wd and Trans, and I still need to start saving $$ for the ONLY drivetrain part that hasn't failed at 175k... *actually knocks on wood*
At this point, NOT fixing Towanda and driving her wheels off would be like growing up obsessed with JAG and SVU, graduating Harvard law school 4.0, then spending life as a career delivery driver- I've got too much invested haha!!

Update On My Denali;
View attachment 221308
My infamous Denali that I love and worked so hard for ****** me over Lmao.
After about a month of driving it, I noticed I had to go into higher RPMs to switch into the next gear. I had our family mechanic check it out and well the transmission is hanging on by a thread. He thinks it’s a 3-4 clutch pack failure and I agree since that’s the gears I have to go into a higher gear for. Anyways though, I know these transmission go hard but when they fail they fail. It’s literally a grenade. And although I have great insurance they deemed it unfixable and I had to sell it.
But uh here’s to a good fun month, with my baby.
Anybody have any experiences like this? Or any stories? Ig it would help me with the loss process
Well that just sucks to hell & back. :-(
