2004 Chevy Tahoe with LQ9 6.0, Looking to upgrade to the 4L80e Trans, They tell me I have to invest in a trans controller to make this all work, would like to maybe find a wiring harness adapter or a cheaper way of doing it. I really dont want to spend $1100.00 on a trans controller. CompUShift II...

Does anyone know of a way to do this.

How much was the CompUshift controller and does it hook into the PCM? I'm curious why you went down that path instead of using an adapter and just flashing the stock computer and tune there. I'm by NO means saying right or wrong by any means, just trying to figure out what the hell I'm gonna do myself LOL!

A 4L80 needs a different crossmember, driveshaft, and has quite different gear ratios. why not build up a 4l60 or 65?

Well its a built Hughes Performance 4L80E made to hold 1000hp and Im wanting something that I can tow with without ever having to worry about it again. I have read about others constantly rebuilding there built up 60's and i just dont want to go down that road if I can avoid it in the first place. BUT the main reason is that it might as well be free because im getting from a friend. We are used to fabbing things anyway so the crossmember wont be an issue. Its coming with a cooler and a driveshaft as well. I know wont be the end of all my troubles but i guess its a good starting place.

fab or get the cross member from 700raptor.com My Trans is rated at over 11HP and = torque My Compushift ties into the trucks Harness. that was a PITA
also I have dumped almost K over the past 11 years in Built 4L60's and 65's and got sick of it. I have no Issues with my 4L80 that Trans is a ******* Beast and will tow with no issues and haul ass too. I think I paid about $1100 for the Harness.

a couple months ago I tow a Buddies 2002 F-250 4X4 Crew Cab Diesel with a 22FT trailer with a Rock Crawler about 10 miles down a dirt road to the Hard Ball and to a Service station cause he had Broke down and the Wrecker wouldnt come Grab him there.

So now you have a 6.0 with a 4l80e on a half ton truck for towing?
I think you got the wrong vehicle to begin with!
You still have a 8.5 rear end, half ton brakes and hardware!
Perhaps you can pull a f250 4x4 with trailer on flatland but does not mean much when you have a 35ft toy box full of toys down the highway for a 500 mile trip!!
Not critizism on nobody!!
Just my way of looking at things!

I think if you need or want a tow vehicle,3/4 n up is the way to go!
Also towing a heavy trailer with a 1/2 ton!! Is very scary!!!!

Performance,reliability wise a 4l80e is a great trans!
But a well built 4l65e is great also! 6.0 escalades,6.0 denalis,6.0 tahoes come with the 4l65e!

even a built 65E is a grenade waiting to go off..
You can only bandade the problem so many times before they just dont work anymore.

A lvl 1 80 blows away a built 65e anyday.
Its been proven thousands of times.

But lets not turn this into the age old drama, 65e vs 80 pissing match..
