Here are some random pics that I took when I was testing how the seat would be if it was just setting on the floor. From these pics its clear that rear facing won't work...

Rear facing totally works... You just have to lose the rear hatch. Lol

Agree with others. Depends on what seats you use. Tahoe/Yukon 3rd row is split but as far as are they different the answer is no until you get to the suburban/yukon XL. The split might be a little easier to manage but keep head room in mind. Great project can't wait to see pictures.
