I like you're thinking - currently at night when camping there is no "switchable" light back there. I'm going to build a custom switch panel this winter and I'll def throw those in there.

Doesn't Matter
Roof rack tents? Powered coolers? Shit sounds *****. When I go camping I often don't bring a tent. I have military cot a stole from work and sleeping bags. Only if there's bad weather on the horizon do I consider bringing a tent. You could just fold down the back seats and sleep in there, done that too.
Auxiliary lights really help. For light when not driving, you don't need anything fancy, a head lamp from Wal-Mart and extra batteries will cover you.
The Tahoe is a pretty decent rig for off roading. Don't listen to the nay-sayers. Though you will probably want to get beefier CV Shafts. Mine are from RCV. At $500 a side they're not cheap but cheaper in the long run than constantly breaking OEM shafts like I used to. Remove your front sway bar, it helps with front suspension flex quite a bit. Mud terrain tires work every where. My signature is no lie, I really have gone every where with my truck.
And if you fear getting your truck dirty, scratching your paint, bumping, rubbing, breaking, bashing and generally giving your truck character, back out now.
Try keeping it simple, unless you got the money to invest in the fancy-schmancy shit. Hi-Lift style jacks, recovery straps(not tow straps with the metal rings), shovels, traction boards, groups and multiple vehicles. The simple stuff/techniques are still around and in use because they work.

So I'm thinking of morphing my truck from it's current stage to a 4x4 rig that could disappear in the woods for a few days of camping and 4wheeling and not need to come back out until I was good and ready.

I picked up a 300+page "4wd Action" (Austalia) magazing at Barnes & Noble over the wkd and i'm seriously hooked on the idea. These guys take there small block turbo diesels and literally disappear into the bush for a few weeks!! These trucks run through sand, water holes, etc and camp and check out nature.

These guys have coolers (run off the truck), lights bars, tents (that utilize the roof), etc...IMO, very cool.

With that in mind, I'm looking for a few things:
1) Pictures!! (anyone on this site run a similiar configuration)
2) Any good 4x4 websites?
3) Where can I do this in the EASTERN part of the US??

I'm hoping this new interest if mine will pass soon...i priced out a new bumper + winch and it was $2k+ But it seriously looks like a lot of fun.

Are we talking something kinda like this?

I had to replace the Ballistic high steer arms with Crane arms and I had to redo the crossover setup, but the axle was already installed.
