I have an 06 Envoy Denail with the 5.3. Got it with 28K and now have 125K. It has always used about a quart every 2500 to 3K miles, getting a little worse with age. Was told that it was within spec when I bought. I do my own work so this has never bothered me, but not sure about those folks that don't own a set of wrenches.

Was bumping around checking to see if this was still an issue with the 5.3's since we are looking at an 12 or 13 Tahoe/Yukon.

Also wondering what the difference is between the Aluminum Block and Iron block motors are.

07 5.3L AFM with ~76k, using dino oil, replacing every ~3k, and no oil consumption - knock on wood.

I just installed a Magnuson on my Tahoe a few months ago. When I took my stock intake off to install the blower, there was a large puddle of oil I could pour out the inside of my intake. I first noticed the head ports were dirtly, then I glanced over and my stock intake had oil dripping on the concrete because it was at a slight angle. This makes me believe some of the crap I've heard about the AFM stuff. I never noticed any oil consumption, I guess it was slow but it was doing something.

This was on a 2010 2wd 5.3 w/ AFM at 40,000 miles.

I never had too many issues with oil consumption until recently. In my f-body days people were always talking about piston slap and oil consumption on the LS based motors and now I know what they are talking about. I'm just now starting to mod my Suburban and a catch can is on the list of things to do, just have to find something nice that I won't have to mess with too often.
