Playing around with the 2025 build configurator and it shows a $5,540 up charge for the diesel engine on the Z71.

On the build calculator for a Silverado ZR2, there is only a $1,965 up charge to the diesel.

Do we think the $5,540 Diesel motor premium is legit or will that come down in time? When using a fuel calculator, it would take over 7 years to recoup that cost compared to the 5.3!

Probably take longer than 7yrs to recoup the cost due DEF fluid, oil changes are higher plus fuel filter replacements. I figured it up once with the up charge and difference in mpg vs the 5.3 and Diesel plus extra price of Diesel fuel price it was more like 12yrs or so. Alot of people buy the Diesel for mpg and don't think of the extra cost just for the motor and think there saving money. They also say it has a higher resale value of course it does but you payed the higher resale price when you bought the vehicle so it really doesn't.
For the ZR2 there is a up charge for the 6.2 over the 5.3 so that's why your seeing less of an up charge for the Diesel vs the 6.2.

It seems the pricing is all over the place. Looking at the LT, its a $500 increase to go from the 5.3L to the 3.0.

Not sure how chevy is determining which trims get such a drastic increase for the diesel compared to others.

I would love to get a diesel Z71, my sierra AT4 has the 3.0 and the fuel economy has been incredible. At $5,540 it doesnt make financial sense to choose it. Now if it was 1-2k, that would be a different story

I’m not sure what to make of the pricing. I think they’re getting way too greedy.

My ‘21 Premium today would cost about $10k more to get the same options. There’s a really sweet ‘25 RST near me with the RST performance package but it’s sad for $80k it doesn’t even have cooled seats.

The fact that you can not option a 2025 RST or Z71 with cooled seats is insane. You can get those options on a Honda that is half the price!

You sure it’s just the motor? not some other added package that’s required with the duramax?

Appearantly the Duramax may be a while yet and allocation is close to
maxed out for april/may. I believe it as dealers paying premium $$ to trade a 2023/2024 duramax in.

Changes are more than engine. Z71 diesel was not available on 2021 thru 2024. Note below

The Z71's unique front fascia, designed for better approach angles, caused issues with the diesel engine's intercooler and piping, preventing it from being offered on this trim level.
