HaHa! I am definitely a gas engine guy but if anyone out there wants to give me a diesel I will take it bro! lol!!!You couldn't give me a diesel engine. I would go with gas.

Yes, when there is dust, you need to change the oil. What did you have on the 5.3 2024?Well.. i was careful.. however.. below is the first 25 hr drain. Quite a bit in there.. not really happy. I have built a few engines.. you must be clean.. otherwise you are wasting time and effort.
The second drain at 50 hrs.. was what i expected. Decent. I think everybody needs to get a quick flush of the oil at 25 hrs… no motor will last with what i saw in my 2024 5.3.. as it was delivered.. cleaning and tooling must not be where they were.. my last 5.3 was an ‘18 truck and it was really clean right off the bat.

On the other hand second photo is my 2025 slt 3.0… much cleaner at 25 hrs.. a lot less metal in it too.. now i know i should gotten a yukon with a 3.0…. Bummer!
The filter should not be sawed, but cut, so that there are no shavings from the filter housing

I think the 3.0 does have a 100k warranty… as opposed to 60k on the gassers.I too have had many older (2000-2006) 5.3 with 300k+ miles. No engine issues (just transmission). Now in my 2008 Yukon I have this AFM crap to deal with. It does seem the more they try to make them "efficient", the less reliable they become. That said, if you look for the bad, you will surely find it. I have a buddy with the 3.0 in his truck. He uses it for farm use and loves it. I think either way you go, buy what suits your lifestyle the best. I think you have an equal chance of trouble either way.
They extended the maintenance interval to 200k…I really like the idea of the 3.0. I have heard it gets great driving mileage, and it does well pulling. The only thing I can't wrap my arms around is the oil pump belt that runs in oil. Just don't get that and it's a $3000 repair to replace it (have to pull the tranny) albeit after 150k miles. I still might buy one and take a chance. The used prices are coming down a bit.

I get your point but I'm probably more OK with a $3k tranny job than a $3k belt change. Either way, I do think it's a good engine.Not disagreeing...but 200k is a pretty long maintenance interval.
There is likely a reason it was a belt and not a chain.
Lots of vehicles need timing chain tensioners at 200k (not scheduled, but reality is they are needed), cam phasers, etc...so to me at 200K, it is getting up there in the life of the vehicle and at least passes muster.
That is 20k miles for 10 years...which is fairly high miles.
Given the overall quality of GM transmissions...it is likely the Trans may need a replacement before the belt, and you could then just get the belt at same time.
Net, at 200K, I feel it is hardly an issue.
