6.2l engine tick

Do all 6.2 L engines tick on start up until it’s warm. My dealer said it was normal it has 10,000 miles. I’ve done two oil changes. I do about every 5000 miles. 2023 Yukon Denali.

My new-to-me 07 Yukon XL Denali with the L92 6.2 L has had that engine tick at cold start since the day that I bought it. It goes away as soon as the engine temp approaches 200 F.

My '09 Tahoe had a lifter tick that was most prevalent in the morning, but after it was warmed up. My '23 Yukon makes ticking noises from somewhere in the engine bay upon start up, but it's not the same lifter tick I had with my '09.

Thoughts, my @r$e.
Buy a quart of 0W30 and a quart of 5W30. Put both in the freezer overnight.
Pull them out of the freezer, crack them both open, pour them out simultaneously.

OW30 will pour out quicker and smoother than 5W30. Meaningless once the ambient temp is over 41F,
but it makes a difference in startup wear during the winter.

If your engine ticks during winter startups, 0W30 will stop ticking sooner than 5W30.

If the ticking is only in the first minute or so on startup (warmer ambient temperatures), it's actually "piston slap" which is just the piston rocking slightly in the bore when cold, no? As it warms up, the piston will expand slightly and ticking goes away.

I would think it’s more of a chain rattle more than anything else.
