so i happen to have a 6.6L duramax turbo diesel layin around and had a crazy idea to try and put it in my 95 5.7L 2 door Yukon.. i plan to keep the truck but not sure if it would be worth putting that much money into a engine swap or just build the 5.7l to get more hp. but also want to try to save the gas mileage. what all would be needed to do a swap? and also was lookin to put a straight axle under the front end. any suggestions?

SAS is a decent amount of work,, Dax will need fab work, different mounts, diff computers, a stronger transmission, tank dropped flushed cleaned, diff pump with filter, custom intake, and plumbing,,, basically a shit ton of work

There's a guy at my gym, that has been talking about putting one of those bread truck Cummins diesels in his square-body blazer. He says there's an adapter kit available for the swap. He's been told, that as much as 30mpg is possible with the diesel swap.

I'd doubt very seriously 30 is possible.
I get 17-19 in my 03 cummins.
I'd love to have a LBZ duramax in my NNBS tho

the trans adaprter plate is a cool $1,100 alone... http://www.transmissioncenter.org/cummins_4bt_and_6bt_adapter.htm

if you need cummins swap info i can give you a bunch as i was planning to swap the 5.9 common rail 2010 motor that i have into my tahoe with an allison.. but i have abandoned that path.

Now a cummins tuned the correct way with good gears can get upper 20s easy.. but 30 is a push.

Bread truck diesels have a 3.9l cummins. I doubt you could get 30 mpg though, maybe 25mpg. Plus it's going to be slower than a 350 tbi since your looking for power.

I would just freshen up the 350. A duramax swap is a shit load of work.

Yea, 30mpg did sound kind of high but I don't know anything about the bread truck cummins so I wasn't sure. I got a little curious the other night and did some googling. The ones I found were 4 cylinders. After seeing that I began to think well....Maybe its possible.

Its not anything I would do, I like the sound of a Chevy V8 too much. Now if I could put a Ford twin turbo Ecoboost V6 in my Tahoe, (check my Sig) things might just get interesting.

the bread trucks have a cummins 4BT 3.9L motor it is the 4cyl cummins.. they make nice power with the Ppump stock.. couple simple mods a good exhaust and intake.. no tuning as it is a mechanical motor you can make 300hp with about 580Ft lbs.. reliably if build propper.. these are great little motors. will be about same ** as stock but a good bit more torque gain and thats your towing power.. there is a guy in canadia.. lol.. .he has don this swap to a tahoe.

Yes, that would do it alright and It would probably be so much fun that I would wrap it around a tree and kill myself. You gotta understand I've been driving 350 TBI's since 1996. This Stock 99' Vortec I just bought feels like a hot rod compared to the two TBI's I've had. Last fall I bought a 2011 F150 Ecoboost for my wife to drive, talk about fun to drive. When the turbo's kick in it'll scoot.
