Can you swap one in? Would it be beneficial?

There is a lot that is going on to gain those couple of MPG's in. The newer GM vehicles (depending on what you have you may or may not have active fuel mgt) where the new ones do. As far as the 6 speed goes they are normailly coupled with 3.42 or 3.08 gears. All of this together adds to the better fuel eco.

Cheaper to trade up to a newer one with a 6 speed.

really not. anything can be done with enough money but the cost is extravagant. if it was a toy built for speed maybe you could invest in it. alot of its gonna be custom fabrication. harnesses, mounts, crossovers. its definitely not something i would attempt unless your highly mechanically inclined and have time to make the appropriate parts. 4l80 is a totally different swap and doesn't require as much fabrication as the 6 speed conversion

Wouldn't the 6-speed be beneficial for towing, especially in mountain ranges when using the right gear can make a big difference?
