I have 8,000 to spend on a used Tahoe/Yukon, I'm looking to find the nicest 4x4, under 150k miles I can for my daily driver. Is it better to spend all of my money and get the newest one I can find or to spend less and get one a little older? There is an 04 Z71 in a color I'm not too fond of but it is very nice. Unfortunately it's at the top of my price so I'm not sure what the best route is, because there are some 2 doors for like $4000 with the same miles...

This is very hard to say.

Usually vehicle condition and previous owner upkeep has more to do with it than age.

x2. Condition and maintenance tends to trump newer age.

Spending a bit more up front sometimes can save in the future as those niggly issues that may have been neglected on the cheaper priced vehicle will be your new projects to fix and spend that saved money. Guess it depends on how handy and technical you are and how much you can do it yourself.

But don't settle just to buy something. Get what you want. If you already hate the color you won't look at it fondly every time you drive it or walk away from it. Good luck.

I'd buy the best shape 00-06 I could find. Miles aren't bad with these. Every truck and suv we've owned from these years has been bullletproof, and we run up huge miles on them, driving all over southeast MA for work, and from nh to florida for recreation. Right now I drive an 05 with 288,000 miles on it, at work i have an 02 truck with 200,000 and an 03 with 300,000. Uncle had two that he sold at roughly 200,000. My father owned one that he sold at like 250,000, and another that we don't like to talk about.
The only failure we had happened to a brand new 2004 z71 Tahoe that my father had special ordered. It had a few thousand highway miles on it at the time. Brand new.
The issues occurred when my mother drove something like 300 miles on a dry highway with 4wd engaged.

Find one in good shape with no rust and it'll be your best friend.

I ended up getting the 04. The color grew on me and I really like it. $7500 and 150k miles. I do need to replace the grille eventually as it has a crack as well as fix the drivers side DRL lights. The bumper also needs to be straightened, though I read that is a common problem.
