It's probably a no brainer. Would you do it? I bought the upgraded ac delco spider and a mechanic friend of the family said he would do it for $85. I kinda wanted to do it to learn a little but man I'd free up a weekend and not have to deal with it. Is that a good price?

That's just for the install mind you. The spider was $300 no tax no shipping. This guy just did a timing belt for my wife's minivan and has saved us many times before so he is honest and knows what he's doing. When I was explaining to him what I needed done he said oh the spider? Yeah it's easy but there's a couple that are kinda tricky. He said he would help or just do it for $85. I'm gonna just let him do it. I hope it helps with the loss of power and rough idling. All that's left after that is to find out what the knocking, klunking sound is when going over bumps. I might as well just ask him to look at that too.

I am gonna have him do it them. I'm also gonna have him check to see where the noises from the front end are coming from as well as an oil leak.

While you're at it, might as well replace your intake gaskets. ;-)

sounds like you got a good mechanic, make sure you get him something for the holidays in addition to what ever cash you give him. Good mechanics are hard to find

If you have the money and time then it is a good idea to do the intake gaskets. Use FELPRO gasket kit, no others. Use new attaching bolts. Keep it all clean as a lab. More money of course though.
