old post but looking at it today its the tensioner pulley on the ac braket. it wobbles. i took belt off and that bearing is shot. it has way too much play in it. without belt the motors so quiet lol going to get that new pulley and fix that annoying noise

My friend has a 04 silverado with the 4.3 in it. It has had a an annoying screech in it since he had it. I watched him toss belt after belt on it...all from advance and autozone.

I was looking one day at a new belt for my Tahoe, and decided on the Goodyear gatorback. I picked him up one for his truck as well. Turns out the problem is now gone. His truck hasn't screeched since. I guess the better quality belt makes the difference.
