Hi-Output Alts'

Sorry FF40 , I'm not up to par on these newer trucks etc. I'm learning more every day that I get on here . I'm a night owl ,,, can't sleep so I spin up some "Vinyl" or CD's and hit the PC until the early hours .
You young guys are really up on this shit . I'm Pre-Fuel Injection Pre-Electronics . Kind of a Fred Flintstone Bare Bones Mechanic .
I was looking for the RPO # for the 145 Amp. Alts' for when I get a chance to hit the "Bone-Yards" (No,,, Not the ***** Houses) in Nevada .
Have you guys heard of the "U-Pull-It's"/Pick-n-Pull/U-Wrench-It yards ?
Talk about a cake walk , all the prices are on the board as you walk in and all the vehicles are up on welded rim stands and it's usually a gravel yard . No weeds, snakes, mud puddles etc. Only downside is no battery powered tools are allowed so it's all grunt-n-cuss especially in St. Louis or Kansas City in the summer . It's a nasty humid cluster-F$%^& at 110-115* and REALLY FKDUP if you take a bath in tranny fluid or 90wght. Ask me!!!!!
Sometimes I want to get rid of my F.I. and go back to a Big Block and a well tuned Rotten-Chester Spread Bore .
I have nightmares about being out/up in the High Desert and have some POS electrical control going ****-Up . It ain't pretty trying to walk out something like that .

Whipple ,,,How the hell does your 4l60e take all that power ?! Thanks for the RPO # by the way .
Very cool rides , mine is a hail beaten green machine working on 188k. but it runs excellant , and other than the hood, windshield, grill and rear bumper it's clean as far as any rust .

Looking at the ages of you guys for the most part I'm a Friggin' Dinosaur !

It must be nice to have places local like that, if you want something from underneath the a vehicle around here better bring your own floor jack and jackstands, most of the time they're sitting on the rotors. No set prices either so you better walk in looking like you're broke or you'll pay premium prices. Some of the ones a few towns over are better because they pull the parts for you, just tell em what you need, pay them and load it up.

I agree with you on these newer trucks, while they are more fuel efficient and have more creature comforts when something does go wrong the problems are harder to diagnose, then when you do find out what's wrong the parts are more expensive and more difficult to replace. The costs to drive, maintain, and modify them is closer than you would think in the long run.

Yeah I hear yah "Roller" ,after all it's a small block Chibby in most cases . But when it comes to above stock perf. parts It seems you're constrained as to what will work with the PCM . I know you can "chip" them but it ain't cheap from what I see . The Rotten-Chester can be tuned great for mileage and perf. toa large degree . So it's a bit doggish during warm up but they can be tuned to really get it on . There are 2 books out now . I have the first one by Doug Rowe but not the newest edition . They are hard at first to rebuild and tune but you have different springs/main metering rods/jets/pump stroke then secondary rods and "hangers" there are some neat tricks that I discovered for myself and took off all the stuff that made them a vacuum secondary , now I can do them in my sleep . No Bogs/Flat Spots , just damn,,, hold on to yer hats' man . The cam that opens the secondary air plates on top can be massaged to open to a full 90* ,also the main secondary butterfly does not open fully but a few "tweaks" cures that issue. I just trust mechanical over electrical stuff ,especially on the trail .
Do a search online for those yards I mentioned there may be one closer than you think .
On one day of the week they have a "Carry Out" day whatever you can carry in your arms from a line on the floor 25' to the front door is $25.00 .
One yard in Medford .Or. that I went to for their classic cars , the guy told me some big biker guy carried a "straight six" out for $25.00 . Around here most yards won't let you in back . You tell them you're building something and need some seats etc. and they look at you like you're a freak and ask for what car . You tell them I want something that will look good in a mid 60's Buick and it's " oh we ain't got nuthin like that " .Try and explain that you DON'T want seats from that year, you want donors and they will just go back to what they're doing . It's like they think their crap yard is like Area 51 ,,,,WTF over ?@! "Get a clue you dumb ass" !
The Pick-n-Pull in Saint Louis they have armed off duty cops at the front doors ,pretty intense . You don't see many White Boys there but it's cool . I ain't big by any means but I'll make eye contact with the biggest one and say "Hey Man , how goes it" ? No worries .
My B-Inlaw (Disabled Nam Vet) and I were there and the manager was threatening (literally) one of his employees . My B-Inlaw spilled some tranny fluid on the floor and this little Napolean CKSKR cussed him . Pissed me off , so I looked at him and made the mention in line I'd drop anyone that dissed me like that , then outta the blue I remembered the "Soup ****" on Sienfeld and looked over at him again and got this grin and said "This dude is like the Soup **** only he was "The Parts ****" "NO PARTS FOR YOU" (even got the accent down)!!! Even the employees and other customers were laughing at this sawed off runt from that ! He actually cleaned up the oil and then left .
I did have the cops watching me but I was smilin' wide and still laughing so they went back to their 12th cup of coffee and 2 dozen donuts !
I love "Baiting" people that think they're better than others .
But you younger guys were raised on this stuff and I tip my hat to you . You got some serious rides !

I used to hate Q-jets because every car myself or anyone in my family had with one never seemed to run right. My dad had his rebuilt for his 85 C10 by a local guy a couple years ago and he must threw all the tricks at it. It honestly runs as good as a fuel injected engine, I would be willing to bet with a 700r4 he could knock down some pretty good mileage #'s with it too. I've driven it a couple times and the throttle response is there and it will fire right up hot or cold. Changed my thoughts on them completely

There isn't alot of the new trucks in the yards around here, after the cash for clunkers ordeal several 88-98 trucks and SUV's have accumulated though, makes me sick looking at the mileage on some of them and realizing a few more big blocks have been killed off. I'd be one of those guys hauling out an engine on my back if they had those $25 days here, I could've walked out with my NV4500 trans for that instead of $800 I paid . I'll have to do some more digging around for some local places because there's some stuff I would like to get after I finish with this trans swap. I'd like to see something a little different and see a carbed big block in one of these SUV's. There's some pics of a 2 door built up similar but no real details on it, I'll see if I can find them and send them your way.
