you are only moving the partial drivetrain not a separate frame and body so you are not likely to get both vins entered. but the vin in the pcm should match the dmv record for when it gets plugged in or you may be held accountable for it in someway. the tranny programming must also reflect what it actually has so reprogramming it will be needed either way.

I ain't as familiar with newer vehicles electronics what do you mean about driving parameters? I plan to use the axles from the z71 and stock size tires so gearing will be accurate motors are the same size in both vehicles. Again i ain't very familiar with computers and all that but i figured with the tranny and axles from the z71 going into the Tahoe and hooked up exactly how it was in the z71 if i use the z71's computer won't it just think its still in the z71 and control the Tahoe motor just the same as it controlled the z71's motor?

train, drivetrain. parameters include engine size, volumetric efficiency, fuel and timing tables, shift tables, abuse tables, axle gearing, tire sizing, tranny gear ratios, t-case ratios, installed emissions equipment and classification, various sensor interpretations, altitude settings if applicable as well as other installed options. just switching the tranny alone will wreck havoc with the system unless it is rep programmed. you will be flooded with fault codes and they have a tendency to effect the performance of the engine as well as abs systems. if you moved the computer as well then the vin is off as well as the emission system maybe mismatched to the computer as well as not represented correctly by info decoded from the vin.

I am not just going to swap trannys I am swapping everything from the z71 to the Tahoe except engine but tahoe has same size vortec 350 engine. And I live in new York so as long as check engine light is off I can get it to pass inspection emissions are not checked in new York. All the parameters you listed will be the same as they were in the z71 axle gears are gonna be from the z71 tranny tcase also from the z71 emissions equipment and sensors will be same as the z71. Z71 is same year as tahoe so the Tahoes 350 should have same sensors and emissions peices as the z71s 350

So by using everything from the z71 the parameters should be met in the z71s computer so check engine light shouldn't be on? And if I get both bins on the registration the vin in the computer will match one on the registration and vin on body will be other one on registration so I shouldn't have any legal issues to worry about. if the guy I bought the z71 from answers his phone I might pick it up tomorrow morning :) i got the welder plug rewired this morning so when I get home tonight I will begin welding the crack in the frame

I picked up a Haynes manual today figured it will help a lot with this swap. I have worked with 70s and 80s vehicles alot but not much with 90s vehicles so all electronics and the hydraulic clutch are new to me. While reading the Haynes manuals sections on removing the standard tranny and the section about removing the clutch master cylinder it says "on 96 and newer you need to use a special tool to remove the hydraulic line from the release cylinder at the access hole in the side of the bellhousing" do I really need a special tool? If I do does anyone know what that tool is called? I tried asking while at the parts store today but they had no clue what I was talking about. Does anyone know of any other special tools I might need for this job? We're finally going to trailer the z71 home tomorrow morning at 10 am :) and I got to find someone with a 3 inch hole saw to cut the hole for the clutch master cylinder tried 4 stores none had a 3 inch hole saw..

Also how do I identify which rear axle is in the z71 forgot to take pictures of the axle I plan to use its axles because the rear axle has posi and I want to keep the gearing and everything same as it was stock in the z71. I also will use the z71 front diff and t case skid plates and the air cleaner assembly and the rear bumper from the z71. the Tahoe rear bumper is so rusted it's see thru lol will be glad to replace it.
