I am rebuilding my transmission and got a kit with the Alto 3-4 clutch powerpack. The instructions differentiate between late and early model V8's. I know this is a noob question, but would my 1999 5.7 Vortec engine be considered a late or early model V8 for the purposes of this rebuild?

Here's a link to the instructions. Thanks.

That's a good question. I know they changed up the 4L60E slightly, TC wise, when they put it behind the LS engines. I would assume "early," but their definition may be different. If I were you, I'd call Alto.

Thanks, yeah, in 2000 (and 1999 for the trucks) for the LS engines they made the TC deeper and the bellhousing too, and added an extra bolt hole in the top of the belllhousing. For 1998-1999 for the 1/2 ton SUV's they had the deep pan filters and detachable bellhousings. Prior to 1998 the 1/2 ton SUVs had the shallow pan filters and the non-detachable bellhousing. At least that's what I saw when looking for a replacement transmission in my local pull a part before deciding to just rebuild what I have.
I just sent alto an email, if I don't hear back from them by tomorrow I'll call. Thanks

I contacted Alto, they said:

That is most likely a “late” application, if you do the stack-up and get .025to .070” clearance, you will be ok.
