I'm assuming he uses this truck often for mudding if he is bogging down in mud.

You want to regear for your terrian and your tires when it comes to off roading. 4.56's+33's (op stated 33's) would be good for a mud set-up. It might suck on the street, but theres no fair trade off here

Could maybe run a 4.30 if that's available for his truck. Not sure if it is however

Check the fuel pressure that might be making it bog down.

Ive done a TON of mudding in my truck and i can assure you if its only happining in mud its gears related , purple is right here with the no fair trade off , while you will notice a def increase in torque and feeling of power and wheel spin . gas mileage decreases with a regear . mine does it all the time since i have not yet regeared 4.56 is a bit much for 33 as its a near perfect match for a 35 but if you mud often im sure you are thinking of lifting and bigger tires in the future 4.10 gears would be OK also for 33s but you will run into the same issue once you go to a 35, use this chart http://www.offroaders.com/tech/gear-ratio-chart.htm , remember i said 4.56 almost perfect for overall.
lets just drop a 5.71 ratio under it with 44s =)

Well i use mine as my dd since im still in hs lol. I plan to get some 35's soon but moneys the issue when it comes to the damn gears, been quoted 1500+ for front and rear and stock size tires were i think 265 .... 15

if your stock tires were 265/75/15 and current gear is 3.42, the when you switch to 35 you would need a 3.91 to re equal the given RPM in Feet Per Minute. this would basically return the stock rwhp to ground but does not take tire mass into consideration on acceleration rate. if this is a vehicle that sees any road time then i would suggest 4.10 for street and using the transfer low modes and gear 1, 2 or 3 for mudding. it is the compromise that seems to make both sides of equation happy for power and mileage.

well i dont want it back to stock... hahah i cant stand this sluggish / no power. thats why im saving up for some 4:56s to get put in for a steep 1500..
