Oil pressure gauge hasn'tworked for quite some time. I'm nervous about that too

So look at it this way. If you are LUCKY, you can salvage the motor and get it up and running. But first fix the oil pressure gauge or this might happen again.

In my honest opinion there HAS to be some damage to the rotating assembly bearings if the engine was run 3 to 3.5 quarts low. But if it did not totally seize on you, there might be a chance. Have you checked your oil for metal shavings?

Also, please notice if the oil smells of raw fuel.

And while you are under there, see if there looks to have been any oil leaking from where the exhaust manifold connects to the exhaust pipe.

just got the head back on. I have compression back! Had a leaky valve. Reground them all. put the new sending unit on. About to work pull the other head due to all the carbon on the vavle stems and be sure while im this far.

Use good oil but I wonder how "good" a all this crappy ethanol gas is sometimes. At 12 mug I can't afford to feed this thing premium gas all the time.

I had #8 injector fail and and it very rapidly washed the oil control ring and allowed the oil up from the crankcase and out through the exhaust manifold. Where it then leaked out at the exhaust connector flange.

Glad to hear you got compression back though!
