I don't think so, they changed the trans when they went with the LS engine, doesn't the 99 have a vortec 350 in front of the trans. your 04 should have a 2 piece trans, the bellhousing is bolted on to the trans. I would stay with a 01 or newer.

I'm new here but not new to cars or forums. I've been searching for 3 days and there is conflicting info out there. Lots of similarities between the transmissions, but I'm also seeing that the 99 has a switchover with the LS style blocks. I think it could work but might be some things i would need to swap over to make it work.

it's not that it won't bolt up to the 04 block, the electronics might be different and the 04 4l60E is a much better trans, it has most of the good parts in it. I don't know why you would want to back date the trans when the 04 is a better unit.

Mostly for cost reasons. I purchased the tahoe and almost immediately the trans went out. I don't have money left over for a rebuild. Believe me, I don't want to put a 99 trans it was just the cheapest possible option I've found so far.

Got lucky after a great deal of searching. Got a 4x4 4l60e from a trailblazer. Same year same code trans. Only difference was the mount on the back. That was easily swapped. Only thing left to do is the driveshafts and the exhaust.
