Hey everyone, yes, I'm new to the site. I appreciate these forums because in the past I've been able to find answers to questions in existing threads; not so this time. I have a 04 tahoe z71, 190k. For the last few months every time you start it, it will change from 2hi to any of the other options, even 4lo. I replaced the actuator, no luck. Whether it chooses 4x4 or 2hi, it stays in that mode and I've always been able to switch back. So my thought is that is may be the selector switches themselves. Any other thoughts before I spend some money and time on this? Thanks for the help.

I can't tell you how to fix it, but I would start at the 4x4 switch in the dash. I believe it serves as a "controller" for the system. You may look into it. Good luck!

Does the vehicle actually switch out of 2HI to another mode or is it only the lights on the switch?

My previous SUV, a Trailblazer had a flaky switch and replacing it cured the problem for me. I understand it was pretty common in the Trailblazer/Envoy.

On my TB, it never actually changed modes but would sometimes show something other than 2HI, also the indicator would occasionally blink like it does when actually changing modes but never changed. No service 4WD or other drivetrain codes were present.
