About a month ago I was quoted for a power steering pump?

By the thread title, I assume you took it to a shop and they gave you a quote based off of the noise, correct? Sure would help to know the vehicle details but I know you have a rack and pinion. Does the quote include a p/s flush? If the power steering works ok and is just noisey, then a possible flush could fix the noise, but for how long? You could even try an additive and quiet the noise. Does it make the same noise when moving. Turning when sitting still at idle, is when it is the hardest on the p/s system.

Noise seems to intensify as I turn at idle. But I can’t speak for driving and turning. Did the video load for you? The quote was $500

Any rig will have more p/s noise turning at idle. How loud it is and what kind of noise says whether it has a problem. What are you getting for the $500? Please don't say they did not give you documentation and it was all verbal. You should always always always get documented what you are getting for the money. Also, is it a new part or reman?

Before you go down this road take the truck to a jiffylube type place that’ll swap out your p/s fluid. There is a known issue occurring with p/s fluid, the OE GM fluids in particular that pisses off the p/s pump and causes cavitation.

BYOF. Bring your own fluid to the bay for your service. Purchase a replacement fluid that will cost more because it’s loaded with conditioners. After my new p/s pump was installed in my 08 Denali, it was not happy. Another reman GM pump was installed and it was the same. After the Indi contacted a dealer tech, he got the info to swap the GM fluid out and …. fixed.

Thanks I will look into that. Maybe the mechanic was right about my ps pump and or pulley, the noise I was having in v4 mode while DRIVING stopped once I got AFM disabler The plug in… but I noticed this morning (it’s getting colder outside too) that when I stand in front of the car I heard the same grinding noise every few seconds come and go and then it just stopped altogether. I’m sure it will get worse as it gets colder. I’m pretty sure it’s the power steering pump?

I’ll link the noise that I think/thought was the AFM related but I guess could be the power steering pump
