abs light and brake light are the same scan by a abs scanner.

if you get a free app scanner. i have this one, works well. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...d2.chevroletsys.chevroletsysscanfree&hl=en_US

you'll likely have a load of codes in history, delete all of them. then drive the truck some and rescan. the new codes are the ones that matter.
They are but a brake light illuminated alone is slightly different I went thru this on my 03 when I did a brake job, after I was done the brake like was on, no abs, tech2 scan showed no codes at all, after a bit of research it turned out I had jammed the proportioning valve and the only way to verify that was with the brake fluid sensor, it essentially was telling the bcm that the brake fluid was low when in fact it wasn't. after a couple days of driving and doing some very hard emergency stops it un-jammed on it's own and the brake light went out, very weird problem to run into.

i hear ya. but a lot of the times the abs and red brake light come on and the tc light stays on all at the same time. not that theres codes for those things directly either, just other codes that set it off.

he may have a code for a not working abs bulb too. like you get for a burnt out cel light bulb.

Just wondering, do you feel the ABS kick in when you're breaking and get under 10mph? Good recommendations above - Scan for codes and that should get you really close to what the issue is.

Yes i have.
When it works it works well. When it doesn't work...you can definitely tell! Ha.

I love my truck. There are very few issues with it. Previous owner took extremely good care of it. However... I had a hunch when buying it that something electrically was being covered up.
Sometimes...ABS works, then randomly itll just decide not to work. Odd thing was there's never any light on the cluster. No orange ABS light, no red Brake light, not even during the bulb check when u start the car.

Upon looking further, someone has sharpied out the red Brake light as u can see from the pic just barely.
I'm wondering what the problem could be. Ill have to get codes pulled and let you guys know what I find.
Hopefully nothing major 519ee0751d606f48d2c3caacba98f8bf.jpgf6ae2ced99bbe6e06dd5b3e2ce170e54.jpge3ea4a3cb91bc14a731237b3badddb74.jpg

My 05 was doing something similar, only I didn't get any warning lights on the cluster. It was a front wheel speed sensor, pulled the sensor out of the axle tube and cleaned off the flat spot where it mounts to with a file, put it back in and no more problems. That was about 8 years ago. There was a little rust on the flat spot that was keeping the sensor too far away from the reluctor ring. Easy fix.

Not only is this a search for a mechanical problem on the rig but also the detective in you gets to go get facts to back up the theory you had when you first looked at this rig. Like a dog on a bone, you can't let it go. Then, when you find the problem, especially if he was the only owner of this rig, you can tell him you found what he was trying to hide when he sold it and that, especially in this case, it is a safety problem that could have been a very large dangerous problem. The safety aspect of this really hits home with me. I have always always felt that no matter how well a rig handles and runs, the most IMPORTANT system on the vehicle is the brakes.

Brakes and steering are important for my vehicle's driving conditions...…………...

Alright guys...
Had the codes pulled

C0281 and C0265
First code being open or short in stop lamp switch/circuit
2nd code being relay output issue in ABS module

Bad brake switch = common. 10 minute r&r
Bad solder joints in the module = reflow.
Cool. Thanks a bunch!
Can i take the module off the ABS assembly without opening the brake system?

Should i worry about the actual pump/valves at all or is it pretty much just the module i need to worry about?
