I have the Viper 5701. I love the remote for it and it has been a great system.

Ive been using a Clifford 50.5x (dei) for about a year and have no complaints...vent the windows when its hot and start it and run the seats when its cold. I bought mine online and overpayed to have a local shop install it, still worth it though.

I was wonderin about the seats and that window vent sounds pretty cool. Do you have to specially ask for that when installing?

DEI has some of the best products out there and have more awards and recognition for innovation and technology advancements than any other mobile security manufacturers. I've installed everything from Alpine alarms, Clarion Ungo, Compustar, Audiovox, DEI, Omega products, etc., and after 17+ yrs of installing, I've come to learn from personal experience that DEI is by far one of the more technologically advanced and reliable systems available. I've been in this field long enough to see which products have a high product failure return rate, and DEI is last on the list. Most professional installers who have actually installed many different brand security systems prefer DEI products.
Now, IF I went with something other than DEI, it would probably be Autopage. Just my .02.

That's kind of the point... DEI is so widespread that EVERYTHING is out there for everyone to see, and they are all essentially the same. Great for installers and shops. Not so great from a security standpoint. I used to install them too.

My wife can program or valet a DEI from memory and she is a NON-technical person (I had to walk her thru setting up driver 2 on the tahoe). Most anyone can because almost everyone has owned one.

Almost anyone can add almost any DEi remote to any other dei system... that is the problem with DEI IMO. That and I don;t like their 2 way remotes, and never have.

That's a good point, if everyone has them and knows about it's operation then what would stop a thief from learning the same stuff. Yea from a security standpoint it's not good, then again if someone really wants ur sheit what's going to stop them? Also who really pays attention to an alarm that's going off? I think your best defense is not to advertise ur stuff, especially in your neighbourhood. So flip ur 4 TV screens up and keep the boom down until ur away from ur neck of the woods. Just my newbie .02 cents

This is why install is just as important, if not MORE important, than the product.

While I share Eagle's view of DEI's monopolizing control in the area of security systems, JK is correct. They are a reliable company that will probably be around for a long time and for the most part, their product is pretty reliable. Even if they are buying out other products and putting their DEI stamp on it, you are still now buying a "DEI product".

As for install, and I am sure JK will agree:

Don't mount the alarm brain where it is easily accessible. Depending on the type of alarm, if a thief can reach it and disconnect it, then he can disable it.

Don't mount the siren where it is easily accessible. If the thief can access it and cut the wires, then the alarm is silenced in seconds. Even if you have a battery back up siren, and thief can just muffle it with a rag or shirt, which is why people go with multiple sirens and mutiple inside piezos.

Try and match all your new alarm wires to your factory wiring, making it harder for a thief to deal with.

While nothing is theft-proof, the above will put you many steps ahead of a thief.
