Hi all! New to the forum!

I'm racking my brain here trying to isolate this noise.

So I've got a clear alternator whine (changing pitch with rpm change) coming from what I think is the gauge cluster.

Here's what I've done already:

Replaced the alternator, twice, from 2 different auto stores. No change.

Disconnected the speaker harness underneath the console. No change.

Disconnected the main wire from alternator while leaving everything else in tact. -Noise goes away!

So it's definitely coming from inside the cabin. Noise can be heard at all speeds, until drowned out by road noise. It's annoying the crap out of me!

Someone had suggested to check the grounds...but I don't know where to start.

I have a 2007 LTZ 5.3

Thank you in advance!!!!!!!!!

I have not. But the previous owner must have while they owned it, then put the stock Bose with nav back in it. They failed to put the factory subwoofer back in, but I was able to get that replaced from my dealer.

Currently, stereo is stock, yes.

Thank you

does your truck have the rear audio controls. if so when you hear the whine turn it off and see if it goes away. My Tahoe does this, so it will be going to the dealer when i get back to the states

I appreciate the input guys!

It does have the rear audio controls, and once it stops snowing I'll give that a try. Thanks.

I was considering trying a delco alternator. Price was a consideration, but if it solves it, I'll gladly pay.

I should add that this noise is still heard with the radio, amplifier, and gauge cluster fuses PULLED OUT.

Now I found online a 150 amp alternator noise suppressor that obviously goes inline of the main alternator wire. About $125. If I'm unable to determine the cause of this noise, would something like this work? Has anyone used this before?

okay normally when you install aftermarket stereo system and get an alternator whine its because teh RCA cables going to the amp are to close to the power and ground cables
pull the boise radio out of the dash and post a pic of everything behind it all the wireing harnesses and what not

I have the factory nav with 11' headrests. My RCA cables are near the factory amp in the center console. I also have the Big3 upgrade with 1/0 wires and still get a whine but not really noticeable. Mostly when i floor the gas pedal.

I'm still not convinced the noise is related to the audio system. Like I mentioned, I pulled all fuses for audio system, and disconnected the main speaker harness, and the noise is still heard.

my 07 whined intermittently for years. It is a factory nav bose system but had a pioneer nav installed already when I purchased the truck. I installed a new oem alternator and the whine was still there. My head unit was stolen a few months ago so I had to install all new interfaces and new nav unit and the truck hasn't wined since. Don't know if it was the nav unit or the interfaces.
