Ok, i have engine whine. Been searching all over the net for answers and have seen some and did them. The whine isnt terrible, at idle hardly noticeable, get moving and its very noticeable. So, now i figured w/ our vast amount of folks that are very knowledgable w/ audio equipment i would ask here.
Also, this happened when i installed the p4300dvd radio. Before all same equipment, except stock nav radio as the headunit and didnt have any whine or noise at all, only when i changed out the headunit.
I have a RF T400.4 amp. Four channel amp. bought brand new. only had about a year, but could be longer. Headunit, pioneer p4300dvd. RF Rca's. (dont know if shielded, dont know how to tell, got them free)
Here is everything i did, per reading around and just my own little knowledge.
1. Power wire is on drivers side of tahoe
2. All rcas are on passenger side
3. Amp is grounded to seat bolt, paint is stripped all the way down
4. Re did ground, ran wire to battery (temp) just to see
5. Read pioneer is notorious for the pico fuse blowing. (never hot swapped rcas, but tried the grounding the rcas trick, didnt do anything still same noise
6. Took radio completely out, undid all rca's, still noise
7. i know your not suppose to do this, but on the amp i took out one of the rca,s (front or rear one at a time) the whine got even louder, alot louder.
So i ran out of ideas, then remembered i have a JL 300/4 amp. So i undid the RF amp and hooked up the JL amp, NO NOISE. Nothing, not even static.
Noticed the jl amp seems to be better made, the inserts for all pwr/grnd/remote/ speakers is better. You have to really have the wires in it. (if that makes sense) and the front speakers input is on one side of the amp and the rear on the other side.
My question is, have done all this, and the whine went away only when changing out amps, is my Rocksford amp bad somehow? The wires are in the same postition and tried the rf amp again and whine. So now im rocking the JL amp w/o whine, but just want to know whats wrong w/ my RF amp.
Thats all i can think of, is the amp is bad somehow. Is there a ground for the rcas on the amp?
Thanks for any input on this. RF amp works fine, just has a whine.
