I bought a Pyle amp, yeah I know you get what you pay for but the amp had the perfect specs for what I want. 6 channels and fit under the cup holder in the console. However, it doesn't work right (details below). And their tech support confused me:
  1. My alternator is running at 14 volts, I believe this is nominal voltage.
  2. Battery is at just over 12 volts (car off)
  3. When car starts voltage on amp circuit goes to the 14 v due to alternator kicking in.
I called Pyle tech support they said my truck has a problem. The voltage to amp needs to be 12.5v max or it goes into protect mode and shuts off. That seems completely ridiculous. Their tech support said my alternator should be running at no more than 12.5v... (that would risk draining the battery if it dips in voltage).

Could that be correct? I'd assume amp voltage would be the same as alternator's output. And that any automotive speaker amp would tolerate between 12 volts to 14.5 volts or so?
