In one of your other threads you said it was a dog and isn't running to it's fullest. Which is it??

I think he means its better than the 5.7, but with a custom ground cam and everything, he feels it's not performing to its fullest.

And I'd go with a 383 too, just because it would be better for towing etc...

I thought I put in my 2 cents: I'd go with the tried & true, legendary 350. Better fuel economy and tons of hop up parts.

I'm just trollin ...

Id go 383, just cause "theres no replacement for displacment!"

Sure there is it's called pressure. Blower, Turbo, Supersharger ...

Anything that will hop up a 383 will work on a 350 as well.

You guys are goofy.... well I'm gonna have to weigh my options... would love a 383 but I'm not as heavy footed as I used to be... I tow a 30' camper maybe 2x a year within 75 miles... I'd rather more than anything have reliability over anything else... I truly have no use for a 383 other than the wow/seat of pants factor and it would just be a waste of another 1,000 I don't have to spend... so I'm leaning toward a factory GM replacement long block... i'll be sure to document whatever it is I'm gonna do...

I had a similar problem once, and it turned out the torque converter had come apart inside. Had a constant but random clacking sound. The truck ran fine. The trans oil had "metal glitter" in it if you checked the dipstick in the sunlight.

You could always take out the TC bolts and push the TC away from the flywheel an inch and start it like that. If it is still there then you know for sure it is the engine.
