I am going tomorrow to test drive 97 Yukon 4 door 4X4. The truck is immaculate, inside and out even the motor is clean enough to eat off of. I noticed when I test drove it yesterday the steering seemed odd to me very different than anything I have driven before. I found out after searching here all weekend the Yukon has something called Speed-sensing steering.

How do you guys that have that feel about it?

I am going to take it to a shop and have them put it on a rack and go over it with a fine tooth comb. Truck has 126k on it. Asking $5800 with brand new goodyear AT tires. Wanted to get some opinions from the experts, good price? Things to look out for. Everyone here seems to really know their stuff. Wanted to hit up the subject matter experts. Thanks a lot.

Yea I just did the one in my 92 silverado. One of the things that bothered me was the dealership it was had was keeping it on E. They had to put gas in for me to test drive it. I guess it will not hurt for a few times. But it still made me un easy thinking about that pump running hot lol

Well the Yukon i looked at was a no go. Once we got it up on the rack the problems just came tumbling out. Now I am in a hard way, it seemed like a year ago i could find a 97-99 Tahoe or Suburban anywhere I looked, now I can't find anything but an 01 and newer.
I also figured out that checking out the vehicle is only a part of the problem when buying a car. Anyone got some tips on dealing with car salesmen, and haggling a price?
Thanks for all your help

+1 if u metion only the bad u can beat them on the price a little. kind of act as if u are a little disappointed, the best way to haggle down the price;)

sucks it was a real disappointment, but just be happy u were able to get it on the lift instead of being screwed later on

What exactly was wrong with it? $5800 seems high.

Brother just purchased this today, yeah it is not a Vortec but should give you an idea. 117K miles. $4,088 after taxes and fees

LMAO I am sure the flames brought the price down a thousand though.

Just a quick run down there were some little things like the door lock actuator in the pass. door didnt work. Once we got it on the rack we found out that it had been hit in the ass, which is why the tailgate didn't open. Then it got bad..

The engine had been pulled and replaced with a junk yard motor, it was put in incorrectly the 02 sensor wires where left hanging and the manifold was burning them to nothing. It had looks bolts all over and oil leaks out the *****, along with what looks like a bad head gasket there was coolant leaking from everywhere. Also AC dye all over everything so we figured the ac was bad.... OH and when i went to restart it to the cylinders were filling up with coolant thus making it really hard to turn the engine over.
Once the truck got warm and you drove it a while you could smell the coolant through the heater.

Definitely happy that i found out before. I can't imagine buying it only to have to dump a ton of money to get it fixed.

Let me ask you this, along the lines of buying a new car. This is my first time so please forgive my ignorance. Say i am looking at an 03 tahoe list for 13500, they offer it online for 10700, How do you base your estimate on how low to go, I thought about offering them 8,500 for it but I just kind of pulled that number out of my arse. Do you use Blue book or Nada? Guess I'm not really sure where to pull the numbers from, when i look at nada they say the average trade in is $9,325 and clean retail is 13,625. Where do you start?

Thanks
